Your historical journey begins with a convenient morning pickup from your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. Meet your guide and settle into a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle for the drive toward Ba Ria–Vung Tau Province. As the busy city streets gradually give way to peaceful villages, farmland, and vast rubber plantations, your guide will introduce the historical background of the region and the important events connected with the Australian military presence during the Vietnam War. Enjoy the changing scenery along the way and prepare for a meaningful day exploring former military sites, underground tunnels, and memorial grounds where stories of courage, hardship, and sacrifice still remain.
Nui Dat SAS Hill – Former Australian Task Force Base Arrive at Nui Dat, once the headquarters of the 1st Australian Task Force during the Vietnam War. Walk around the former base area and discover the remaining traces of its military past, including SAS Hill, the old helipad area, former bunker locations, and the surroundings of Luscombe Airfield. Although much of the landscape has returned to peaceful rural life, your guide will help you visualize how the base once operated and explain the daily experiences of the soldiers stationed here. From the elevated ground, take in views across the surrounding countryside while hearing stories of military operations, friendships, challenges, and life far from home. This atmospheric visit offers valuable context before continuing deeper into the region’s complex wartime history.
Long Phuoc Tunnels – Underground Stories of Survival Continue to the Long Phuoc Tunnels, an impressive underground network that offers a fascinating perspective on wartime survival and resistance. Hidden beneath the peaceful countryside, the tunnels were used by Vietnamese forces for shelter, communication, storage, movement, and military planning. Explore accessible sections of the narrow underground passages and experience the cool, dim environment in which people once lived and operated. Your guide will explain how the tunnel system was constructed, how secret entrances were concealed, and how local fighters adapted to extremely difficult conditions. Discover stories of underground life, handmade equipment, tactical planning, and the remarkable resilience required to survive beneath the surface during years of conflict.
Long Tan Cross Memorial – Remembering the Battle of Long Tan Travel through quiet rubber plantations to the Long Tan Cross Memorial, a place of remembrance connected with the Battle of Long Tan in 1966. Standing in the peaceful landscape today, it can be difficult to imagine the intensity of the events that once unfolded here. With respectful and engaging commentary from your guide, learn about the circumstances surrounding the battle, the challenging conditions faced by those involved, and the human stories behind this important chapter of history. Take time to walk around the memorial area, reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who lost their lives, and capture photographs of the surrounding landscape. This is a moving and thought-provoking conclusion to your exploration of the battlefield region.
After completing your visit to the historic sites of Nui Dat and Long Tan, relax on the comfortable return journey to Ho Chi Minh City. Watch the rural scenery pass by as rubber plantations, villages, and open countryside gradually transition back into the energetic streets of the city. The drive offers time to reflect on the places visited and the stories heard throughout the day—from the former Australian military base at Nui Dat to the underground world of Long Phuoc and the quiet memorial grounds of Long Tan. Upon arrival in Ho Chi Minh City, you will be conveniently dropped off at your hotel, bringing a meaningful journey through history, remembrance, and resilience to a close.

Our guide, Thu, was very good. She was incredibly knowledgeable about Vietnam's history, politics, economy, and tourist attractions in addition to Australian military history there. Being off a large bus trip was fantastic.
The guide was knowledgeable and passionate but not the best English. You don’t actually get to see the battleground. You see a school which is on part of the old battlefield. You see Nui Dat from a distance. Drove past soldier memorial without slowing down for photos. The tunnel experience was very good. The Long Tan Cross Memorial was moving. Was rather let down by the experience. Was expecting to actually see the rubber plantation where the battle took place and it still exists but is privately owned. Could easily be arranged to view.
Jenny was an interesting, entertaining, and informed tour guide. Lunch was delicious and the car was cozy. a wide variety of activities, including touring tunnels and viewing battlefields. Although I had little knowledge of Vietnam, this visit taught me a lot.
Anyone interested in the Battle of Long Tan should definitely take this tour, in my opinion. On the drive back, the food was excellent, and he drove a nice, air-conditioned car.
Our guide was well knowledgeable about the local geography and history. We received excellent care and came away from the event with a deeper comprehension of the battle and soldiers' daily lives.
We recently completed the tour of Long Tan and Nui Dat, and it was fantastic! Nam, our tour guide, was very informed and able to respond to all of our inquiries. Additionally, our driver was excellent. Additionally, the lunch food was excellent. I would heartily recommend this tour.
The private tour was perfect with timing, knowledge of the guide, and his funny character to make us laugh whenever we felt bored. The transportation was comfortable. Highly recommended.
I booked this tour because of my grandfather’s stories about Australia's involvement in the Vietnam War, but I never truly grasped the significance of these locations until I stood there myself. Long Tan, in particular, left a lasting impression; its quiet simplicity provided a profound space for reflection. Thu was an exceptional guide who balanced historical insight perfectly with moments of silence, allowing the site to speak for itself. She never rushed us and ensured everyone felt welcomed throughout the day. A heartfelt thank you to Thu and the entire team for an experience I will carry with me long after leaving Vietnam.
Thu was the best guide we could have asked for. She always took the time to talk with everyone in the group and made every stop engaging. It never felt like a formal tour, and there were many small moments when we would all laugh together. We are really grateful to Thu and the entire team for making us feel so welcome.
The Long Phuoc Tunnels were undoubtedly my favorite part, which surprised me. I had a whole new perspective on what had happened during the war after hearing the stories while standing there. My guide was awesome—friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer all my questions. Thanks, Vietnam Homies Tour, for such a great day.
