Itinerary
Godafoss
60 min
The picturesque Goðafoss is 12 meters high and 30 meters wide. The waterfall is located in the mighty Skjálfandafljót River, which originates in the Vatnajökull Glacier.
Goðafoss means “Waterfall of the Gods,” getting its name from The Book of Icelanders, a tale in one of the old Icelandic manuscripts about Þorgeir, the law speaker, who made Christianity the official religion in Iceland in 1000 AD. After he had converted to the new religion and upon his arrival home, he threw his old statues of the Norse gods of his former religion into the waterfall, hence the name Goðafoss.
Forest Lagoon
Admission included120 min
Forest Lagoon is a new geothermal spa located in Vaðlaskógur forest, a few minutes drive from Akureyri. Akureyri is known locally in Iceland as the "Capital of the North".
Forest Lagoon's 1.300-square-meter complex includes a bistro, two infinity pools with two swim-up bars, a cold tub, and a sauna. The facility can accommodate up to 200 visitors at a time, and we will be open seven days a week from 10:00 in the morning until midnight.
The spa's pools are heated with all-natural geothermal water from the mountain behind the Forest lagoon, Vaðlaheiði. The water was discovered during a tunnel project and now has a greater purpose and a healing power.
Akureyri
60 min
Akureyri is located at the bottom of Eyjafjörður Fjord in the heart of North Iceland. Known as the “Capital of the North,” it is the largest town outside the Capital Area. Sheltered by prominent mountains and located by the so-called “Pond,” as the innermost part of Eyjafjörður Fjord is called, many Icelanders regard Akureyri as the most beautiful town in Iceland.
Because the summer temperature in Akureyri is usually favorable, it is a trendy tourist destination among Icelanders. However, it often gets a lot of snow during the winter, but since Akureyri is the center for winter sports in Iceland, it’s welcomed. Only 5 km from the town center is Hlíðarfjall Mountain, a prime skiing area with excellent facilities.
Akureyri is the center of commerce and services in the region, and there are many attractions in the surrounding area, including historical sites, museums, a botanical garden, and natural wonders.

Wonderful Guide! Expensive 1/2 day
This was an extremely expensive excursion in my opinion. With that being said, our guide was exceptional. Ricky (I'm not exactly sure on the spelling) was a local who had been born and raised in Akureyri. She was extremely kind, helpful, and accommodating. She and my mom got on wonderfully which was good since my mom has limited mobility and spent a lot of time just sitting and visiting with Ricky.
It was a kind of foggy, cool day, but we had a lovely drive to the waterfall, Forest Lagoon, and an informative drive around the city.
We were told the tour would be 5 hours and our guide was told 4, so that was a little uncomfortable for us as both of us had paperwork stating what we though. Fortunately she didn't have anything booked after and we split the difference.
