Experience the majestic beauty of the Western Norway on this 6-hours round-trip by car from Bergen. In a comfortable private minivan, with a private driver-guide, you will travel to the Hardangerfjord, the second longest fjord in Norway. On this tour, you will see 3 gorgeous fjords, stop at 2 fresh waterfalls, experience the amazingly beautiful nature of the Hardanger region. The driver-guide provides interesting commentary to the sights and general information about Norway. This tour includes a ferry ride across a fjord on your way back to Bergen. The car and the driver-guide is with you during all of the tour. The tour ends in Bergen centre. Car on this tour is one of our Mercedes minivans. When only 1-3 people are going on this tour, we may use our Tesla Model X. All of our cars have Passenger Transport Licence.
Our tour starts in the city of Bergen - the Gateway to the Fjords. The city was founded in 1070 and contains many historical and cultural landmarks. We will pass some of them on our way from the city and also on our return to Bergen.
Sørfjorden or the South fjord is part of the Osterfjord which is a peculiar natural phenomenon: an salt water inlet that surrounds the largest inland island in Northern Europe - Osterøy Island - enclosed by contitental land. We drive along the South fjord until we come the the crossroads in Trengereid. (Usually we do not stop here.)
From the village of Trengereid we take Route #7 to the Hardangerfjord. (Usually we do not stop here.)
Hardangervegen or the Hardanger Road is Norwegian route #7. This road is a tourist attraction in itself. We will see beautiful sights along the way: mountains, lakes and waterfalls. On the way to the Hardangerfjord we will make two photo stops at 2 waterfalls: Fossen Bratte and Steinsdalsfossen.
We make a stop at Fossen Bratte waterfall - 259 feet (79 meters) tall. The view is great and you can take some memorable pictures here. A short walking tour to the bottom of the waterfall is highly recommended - you simply must feel the roaring freshness and gentle and pure water drops on your face.
The next stop is at Steinsdalsfossen waterfall - 164 feet (50 meters) tall. You can actually walk behind the falling water without getting wet. A walk behind the waterfall to the view point is highly recommended.
The Hardangerfjord is the second longest fjord in Norway. We will be travelling along the fjord to Vangdal - a view point where we will make our next stop.
After leaving Norheimsund we come to Vangdal. We make a stop at the outlook over the fjord not only to enjoy the view, but also to visit two sights with stone carvings. There is some walking involved down and up moderately steep trails to see the petroglyphs from the Stone Age and the Bronze Age.
We continue our jourley along the fjord. Enjoy the views: natural beauty of the scenery with small quaint villages scattered along the coast. There are a lot of fruit farms on the Hardangerfjord. During summer we can stop at a couple of fruit stands and buy some fruits and berries (available in season).
Our next stop is at the little hill called Omaholmen with a stunning view of the Hardangerfjord - one of the best views in the area. After that we'll be driving farther along the Hardangerfjord.
We will pass the village of Mundheim and head towards the neighbouring fjord - the Fusafjord. (Usually we do not stop here.)
We cross the Fusafjord on a car ferry. The ferry ride takes approx. 15 minutes. While on the ferry, we can leave the car and enjoy a different view of the fjord.
After disembarking the ferry we pass through a small town of Osøyro before returning to Bergen. (Usually we do not stop in Osøyro.) Our tour ends in Bergen.

What a wonderful tour! Our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable in the places, history and overall. He was very corteous and spoke excellent English. He took us to wonderful locations. I highly recommend it..
We had a beautiful, incredible, sunny day on this tour with Vlad. We toured the Hardanger Fjoyd, waterfalls, and pretty villages along the way. Our stop at a homestead for lunch with the charming owner was very special. Vlad was very informative about the places we visited and a super nice man. We had an enjoyable day. Thank you so much! Bonnie
Very informative , great driver and good stops .Also a very comfortable vehicle .our lunch Stop was also great . A touch of local Culture
What an exciting surprise to be picked up in a Tesla X with gull wing doors! This vehicle was extremely comfortable and afforded excellent scenic views through the generously-sized windows. Our guide, Jana, is a lovely person who offers the right amount of commentary to keep things interesting. The itinerary was quite nice, giving us amazing fjord views and the opportunity to visit two beautiful waterfalls. Steindalsfossen is absolutely stunning! We thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the power of the waterfall as we walked behind it and the breathtaking view of the town and countryside from the observation deck! We also participated in an optional farm to table lunch, featuring carrot soup and a wonderful selection of area specialties. The proprietress (Anna?) was energetic and quite interesting to talk with. The only callout is that the farm to table experience was pricier than we thought, so check first if you have a budget for lunch that you are trying to stay within. Overall this tour was a fantastic experience, and we are pleased to highly recommended it to those with a day available in Bergen!
Thank you very much for leaving us a review. We are pleased that you enjoyed this private tour. I agree that Norwegian prices for meals and beverages in restaurants/cafes are high, especially for alcoholic drinks. So that the final price for a meal might be higher than expected. Welcome back to Bergen and our beautiful fjords another time!
My friends and I went on a private tour with Jana who was incredible. She was super knowledgeable, engaging, entertaining, and very gracious and accommodating. We made several stops including a few extra at our request, and lunch at the farm was very memorable. Highly highly recommend this tour and THANK YOU again Jana!!!!
Thank you very much for leaving us a review. We are happy that you enjoyed the tour. Welcome again another time!
Our guide, Vlad, was awesome. He was a great leader who took us to the usual tourist spots. In addition, he took us to some out of the way places that were charming. Vlad was so knowledgeable about the history, culture, and traditions of the area! I would not hesitate to go with him again.
Dear Mark, thank you very much! We're so pleased you enjoyed your trip with us! Your feedback means a lot, and we hope to see you again on your next visit to Norway. Kind regards, Vlad
This was a great way to see a lot of the surrounding area around Bergen. Vlad is very knowledgeable about the sites and history. He personalized the stops for us. He also arranged a wonderful lunch at a local farm. It was nice to sit back and enjoy the tour. I would recommend this excursion.
Dear Camille, It's wonderful to hear you enjoyed your tour with us! Thank you for your kind words, and we hope to see you again in the future. Sincerely, Vlad
We had a great road trip with Jana visiting the fjords and waterfalls outside of Bergen. Our guide was excellent and was a very good driver as well. Perhaps the highlight was our farm lunch where the host shared some of nice soup and local meat/cheese dishes. She also shared the history of the farm that dated back 400 years.
Dear Kenneth, thank you so much for the nice review! We hope you all the best and hope to see you again. Kind regards, Vlad
A perfect way to see Norway. We enjoyed our time with Jana. She was a safe driver and informative. It was nice to hear about everyday life in Norway. We saw gorgeous waterfalls and did some short hikes. Lunch at the farm was delicious (they made accommodations for food allergies) we loved being at the farm. Don’t hesitate to book this experience.
Dear Jana, Thank you so much for your kind review! It means a lot to us that you had such a positive experience. We're looking forward to the chance to make your next trip just as amazing! Sincerely, Vlad
Vlad made the tour very special. Not only did he have a great itinerary planned but was very accommodating regarding our interests. He helped us to visit an ancestral home, took us to very special working farm for lunch but also made a traditional hot beverage and also fruit and cookies for a snack. In our case he was particularly helpful picking up our luggage from our hotel and bringing the six of us to the port so we could embark on our cruise ship for the next part of our vacation.
Dear Mary, I appreciate your thoughtful review and are so glad you had a great experience and I could help you. Your satisfaction is our goal, and we can't wait to welcome you back for more exciting adventures! Sincerely, Vlad
