Highly recommended experience.
It was a very instructive, entertaining and 100% recommended experience. Our guide, Haru-san, received us with great kindness and attention and took us through the small village of "Washi no sato". We were in a couple of artisan washi workshops and in one of them we could make our own washi. Haru-san explained a lot of things about the origin of the place, the workshops and the making of the washi paper.

Echizen Washi tour
I started my day at the updatsu craft centre which was an I amazing experience. (Not part of the tour)
I decided to do this tour afterwards to be able to see how other paper making in the area was done. It was a very good idea! It was really great to have the ability to ask so many questions with the help of the tour guide, and the people we visited were so knowledgeable and generous with their information. It is both hands on, and informative, and allows you to look at so many amazing Washi designs.

Inspiring Echizen washi making tour is a must see and do!
From the moment Sawyer and Hibiki, our tour guides, greeted us for the washi making and walking tour, this was such an amazing experience. We were lucky to have a private tour with just the 4 of us. The paper making at Ryozo was such fun - each of us making a stunning piece of washi! The Osada washi factory highlighted the awesome range of Echizen washi and is a nice contrast. We were impressed by the amount of craftsmanship that goes into each piece of washi.
Walking through the village, learning about the conditions, water, history and traditions of Echizen washi, visiting the shrine and learning about Japanese history and culture made this tour a must see and do! Sawyer answered all our questions and provided insights to life in Japan as well.
We are inspired that this tour also helps further the mission of SOE to showcase and allow the artisans of the area to flourish. If we could give this tour a 10 out of 5 stars we would! We look forward to returning for other tours and experiences in Fukui!

Ryozo staff was very kindness and we enjoyed making Echizen washi paper in Fukui.
The Otaki shrine is one of the most unique shrine and I’ve ever seen these multiple tiered roofs! I hope to visit again with my friends soon.
