Itinerary
Orvieto is one of the most striking, memorable, and enjoyable hill towns in central Italy. Less than 90 minutes from Rome, Orvieto sits majestically high above the valley floor atop a big chunk of tufo volcanic stone, overlooking cypress-dotted Umbrian plains. A visit here will reward you with a delightful, perfectly preserved, and virtually traffic-free world highlighted by a colorful-inside-and-out cathedral and some of Italy's best wine.
Orvieto's cathedral gets my vote for Italy's liveliest facade. This colorful, prickly Gothic facade, divided by four pillars, has been compared to a medieval altarpiece — a gleaming mass of mosaics, stained glass, and sculpture. It's a circa 1330 class in world history, back when no one dared question "intelligent design." Things start with Creation and end with the Last Judgment. Inside, the nave feels spacious and less cluttered than those in most Italian churches. It used to be filled with statues and fancy chapels until 1877, when the people decided they wanted to "un-Baroque" their church. The nave is also an optical illusion; the architect designed it to be wider at the back and narrower at the altar, making it appear longer than it is. Windows of thin sliced alabaster bathe the interior in a soft light. The cathedral's highlight is the Chapel of San Brizio, featuring Luca Signorelli
Civita di Bagnoregio is a town in the Province of Viterbo in central Italy, a suburb of the comune of Bagnoregio. The town is noted for its striking position on top of a plateau of friable volcanic tuff overlooking the Tiber river valley. It is in constant danger of destruction as the edges of the plateau collapse due to erosion, leaving the buildings to crumble as their underlying support falls away. As of 2004, there were plans to reinforce the plateau with steel rods to prevent further geological damage. The city is also much admired for its architecture spanning several hundred years. Civita di Bagnoregio owes much of its unaltered condition to its relative isolation; the town was able to withstand most intrusions of modernity as well as the destruction brought by two world wars. The population today is 11 people, but due to a healthy amount of bnb’s the village gets busy in the summer months. Admission not included.

We have been to several ports in Italy on a few different occasions and have always employed Romeinlimo. Always extremely impressed with their services, their vehicles and the ability to customize a tour. The people I have shared tours with have also been very happy. The cost is well below what the cruiselines offered and with only 8 people per tour - so much nicer. Will continue to choose them when we visit Italy again. Communication is also top notch! Guaranteed return to ship on time and have not failed. Highly recommend them for any Italy tour you are considering - you will not be disappointed!

Fantastic experience all around with Rome In Limo. We used them for a private tour in Rome while on a Med cruise in 2014. After such a wonderful experience back then, we knew they were who we wanted to book with while on our 2023 cruise. I was looking for a day tour to get us, away from Rome, on the day we disembarked. I booked a private tour with RIL to Orvieto and Civita Bagnoregio. All communication was prompt, responsive, and courteous - thank you, Jany! Marco was our driver for the day and we was great! He lives locally and is so knowledgeable and passionate about the area. We met Marco right outside the cruise port in Civitavecchia and headed to Orvieto first. Once there, we bought tickets and toured the church, walked around the cute streets of the town, and then bought tickets to tour the underground caves. The tour lasted about 45 minutes and was so interesting! Marco was instrumental in ensuring we had what we needed and provided information on where to go. After that, we headed for Civita Bagnoregio. Wow! The views of this town are breathtaking. Warning, the hike across the bridge and up to the town is strenuous. Marco had a table reserved at a charming restaurant located in the town. After lunch we spend time walking around the very cute and charming streets. Great experience - highly recommend!
