Postojna Cave, the queen of all caves, is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world’s largest karst monuments. This is the only place in the world where the underground landscape can be traversed on an electric train and where you get to meet this underground kingdom’s most famous inhabitant – the proteus (olm) – up close. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, astonishing diversity of karst features, as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors (more than 36 million of them in over 200 years).
The Predjama Castle reigns over the surrounding area, not far from the Postojna Cave, in the idyllic village of Predjama. This picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable castle has been perched up in the middle of a vertical 123-meter high cliff for more than 800 years. Its romantic appeal is further emphasized by the idyllic Lokva River, which disappears into the underground world deep down below the castle. As the only preserved cave castle in Europe, the Predjama Castle offers a unique insight into the building techniques and resourcefulness of people in the Middle Ages, who were looking for and found a safe harbor for themselves right at the entrance into the cave. During a siege that took place in the 15th century, the castle provided a refuge for its best known and most notorious owner - Erazem of Predjama. The legend about the courageous robber baron Erazem, who remained undefeated until one of his servants betrayed him, is still in people’s minds, inspiring and alluring as ever. It was this safe abode of his which helped the brave knight resist the besiegers without much difficulty for more than a year.

Really fun overall though a little expensive, maybe because it’s so popular that there are more visitors than tours to accommodate. Narrow and windy roads are what take up most of the time, wish they could improve that some, especially with the number of visitors. Excellent driver and guide but unfortunately I don’t remember their names.
Safe and alert driver with a knowledgeable guide . The castle was a thrill and the cave was exhilarating
I arrived on the MSC Fantasia cruise in Trieste, and my main concern was that we would be picked up near the port and returned to the same place at the correct time. I must say that everything went perfectly, communication with the operators was smooth, and they picked us up and dropped us off very close to the cruise. We visited the castle and the cave, and the tickets were included in the price, just as they offered us. Just a small observation, although I understand, the time at the castle was very limited; we had to visit it almost in a rush because we needed to arrive at the cave on time, as there is a strict schedule system there. I have no complaints and recommend this tour; both places are very beautiful and worth visiting.
Wonderful experience! Train ride into the cave was exciting! Amazing cave! Very very big… we had a fantastic time!
Seeing the Castle & Caves was well worthwhile the 50 minute drive from Trieste. Our driver, Matheus from Koper, was friendly, timely with all of our stops and pointed out the all important WCs! Both the Castle & caves were beyond our expectations, and the history was fascinating! Matheus pointed out some things on route & even stopped for a picturesque view on our way back! We would highly recommend this tour to others!
Previously went to Lubyana and Lake Bled. These were more interesting. The cave tour was well-managed and the cave itself was awe-inspiring. The castle was an interesting step back in time. The radio phone included allowed self-paced tour without rushing or standing around. Driver was 5-star. Limited English but I’m trying to practice my Italian so we got along famously. I was able to sit up front which I very much appreciated, since I get carsick. Traffic was light and we had a bit of extra time so he took us on more scenic roads and explained the people, animals and culture a bit. He was knowledgeable to get us into the venues without long lines, and immediately available when we were ready to leave. We arrived back at the hotel on time. He’s also a safe and efficient driver.
Fabulous experience! We were the first South Africans our driver has met in all his years of working. Never thought id ever go through a cave in a train and see such beautiful formations. The castle was magnificent. I loved Slovenia nice to be In a quieter country away from the hustle and bustle of the other places I've been to. Bring a jersey the caves are cold!
Both sites visited were pretty cool to see, and Ernest, our guide, was interesting, informative, and funny. He made it an overall fun experience.
Our tour guide, Ernest, was great! He was funny and informative on all things Slovenia. The caves were breathtaking, and the castle was very cool! Please read the tour instructions and bring a sweater for the caves (they are chilly!) and your passport! We were on a tour with people who forgot both and without the passports, got held up at the border. Don't be those people!
The caves are magnificent. We had never seen anything like them in our travels. The castle was also very interesting and the drive in Slovenia is beau
