Itinerary

Admission included120 min

Your rendez-vous with Paris’ famous dead begins in the morning at Alexandre Dumas metro station. Meet your english-speaking guide and stroll into Père Lachaise Cemetery, the city’s most visited graveyard. Spanning 110 acres (44 hectares), this cemetery houses hundreds of thousands of the city’s famous and infamous dead in tombs of varying extravagance. Hear about some of the site’s famous artists, musicians and writers that rest here such as Edith Piaf, Molière, Chopin, Proust, Delacroix, Jim Morrison and Oscar Wilde. Wander through the labyrinth of graves and along stony paths to visit tombs accented in eccentricity and distinction. As you experience the haunting magnificence of the cemetery, you’ll learn tragic histories of lovers like Heloïse and Abelard – united in a single tomb in the 1817 after centuries apart – and forward-thinking women like writers Gertrude Stein and Collette. Your 2-hour tour concludes at Porte du Rèpos near the Philippe Auguste metro stop.

What a disappointment!!!!!!!

I am very sorry for this experience which was a gift for my mom and for which I came from afar. I have already made a guided visit to Father Lachaise with Mr. Leroy, I know how rich, exciting, funny the experience can be!!! I'm also sorry about our guide, a nice young woman who was taking a band for the first time, and who I was willing to support with indulgence because I find it touching the first time. But there are limits and at some point there is also the real financial effort for this moment and the reality of the fiasco. I can accept a timid and difficult oral, I can understand vocabulary errors because the tour was in French and our guide was of English origin, but I do not pay a guide to point me to a grave telling me that we meet further. I was also amazed by the erroneous remarks about the Mathausen memorial, I found it unthinkable that she did not understand why we stopped at a grave named "Paul Eluard" and too bad that we passed others without a word. I would have understood a need for cards if with, the visit had been relevant and nourished, but there I do not understand the support of the mobile for so few. I am sorry for this young woman who took over a group too soon without being ready, sorry for the group that included other people like me who had incurred significant expenses to come to Paris for this visit, sorry for my mom! A few minutes however nice when crossing another group with another guide we could hear what we could have listened to for two hours ... Father Lachaise is an exceptional visit not to be missed, both artistically and heritage and historical!!!!! But not as we experienced it that time ....! Really very disappointed and a little angry all the same!

Super informative & enjoyable morning!

Had a wonderful morning and a super informative experience! Our guide Abi Summers was super friendly and answered plenty of questions and provided trivia/exposition throughout the tour. Also notably stopped the group at water fountains regularly- super considerate of the heatwave and a very thoughtful touch! It is definitely highlight for our family trip (aged 15-> 50) and I would highly recommend for tourists who have been to the "traditional' tourist spots already 👏 Thanks for a great experience :)
