Excellent value for money

Definitely one of the best cooking experiences we've ever had. A lot of cooking classes either feel too easy or the chef just does everything for you. This class was perfectly adjusted, never felt too difficult but you were learning lots of new techniques and ingredients. Frédéric was wonderful, very knowledgable about the kitchen and extremely friendly. Don't think our group would have laughed half as much without him.

Beyond just Dinner

The market visit (was relocated to La Grande Épicerie du Paris) enhanced the dinner by participating in selecting vegetables and cheeses. Our chef Frédéric was very droll and knowledgeable. He did his best to ensure each participant was given attention. I learned a number of new techniques making chicken ballotine and glazing small balls of cucumber and carrots using a special tool. Was impressed by the emphasis on hand and kitchen hygiene. Frédéric welcomed questions throughout the evening. He asked participants questions about the dishes as they were prepared to ensure we were engaged and to also aid in the learning process. At the end of the evening, at my request, he provided a list of places to buy équipement and spices frequented by professional chefs but open to the public. I visited the area the next day and got to experience another part of Paris I hadn’t been to before. It was an unexpected bonus. Wine was offered on arrival and throughout the meal. We ate our entrées which were mushrooms in a cream sauce while other parts of the dinner were cooking - the ratatouille and red wine sauce for the chicken and ice cream was in the machine. We then went to kitchen to do final prep and plating of the main dishes and again repeated the process for dessert. We sat together and chatted after the meal, not leaving until after 11 pm. It was a true experience, not just a meal.

Cooking in Paris

Paulo was the best. Very knowledgeable about all things food. He engaged the class and involved us in each aspect of preparing the meal. We especially appreciated that he fully included our eleven year-old granddaughter throughout the experience.

We will be back!

My husband and I had an amazing time with our instructor, Paolo. The market visit was a lovely educational experience learning the differences in our fish selections and sourcing, cheese selections and pairings, etc. The actual cooking class was amazing as well. We worked together as a class on all of the components of our different courses so we each had a hand in every part of the dishes. The food was amazing, the wine was flowing, and the company was phenomenal with like-minded travelers experiencing French cuisine and cooking. This would be good for any travelers from teens and up, we did not have any children in our group and I am not sure how suited it would be for them. Nonetheless, we will definitely be returning for another class on our next trip.

French Dinner Cooking class - Ann

One of my best experiences while in Paris. Enjoyed the food market and information that guide gave us about the quality of the foods. Even went on a subway ride to the cooking place. Loved the hands on experience of making the food and all the tips the chef gave us. This is how I learn to do things- not by simply watching someone else do it. Wine was freely available. Chef would offer suggestions if I didn't quite do the process correct. Fellowship with other participants was great. If you like cooking different meals, this is a must do while in Paris.

Operator response

Bonjour Ann, and thank you for your great review of your French Dinner Cooking class in Paris at Le Foodist. I am delighted you enjoyed the market visit and all the information shared about the quality of the foods, as well as the hands-on experience and the chef's tips along the way. I am also very happy that the fellowship with other participants stood out to you - we too believe that cooking and eating are best lived as shared experiences, and this is very much the French way, an immediate taste of French culture. Merci beaucoup Fred

Great change in pace! Hidden gem!

We had an amazing time with amazing people! Paulo created such a fun memorable experience starting at the market which tought us more than we ever expected to learn about seafood and cheese. We spent the evening preparing an incredible dinner with 6 other amazing people and spent the night learning, laughing, and creating great memories. Paulo was an incredible host throughout and this has been a highlight of our week in Paris! We would (and will) definitely book again!
