This was such a fun way to spend an afternoon! Four friends and I (all in our late 20s/early 30s) spent the day figuring out the game and had a blast. It was such a fun way to spice up a Sunday afternoon, especially as a local. I saw parts of Old Town I didn't know existed before and overall it was a great experience. I got my roommate the game for Christmas and would highly recommend giving it as a gift!

My husband and I had an amazing time! I ordered the box to be delivered, and we waited for a nice, free weekend day to head over to Old Town to try it out. The puzzles were creative and engaging, and there was a nice story to move things along. We were able to move at our own pace, and there were hints where we needed them. It was a great way to spend some time exploring this part of the city! They also do a great job of keeping it up to date; there was one puzzle which referred to something that isn't present anymore, but the web app was updated to show a picture of what would have been there. A couple of the puzzles really stumped us and we needed to use hints, but most of them were just the right level of difficulty. It took a couple of hours; it's great for locals, and if time permits, I think it could be a fun activity for those visiting the city as well.
We did Escapely's "Escape the City" ghost-hunting adventure around Old Town and had a blast. We played it to celebrate Touch Grass Day, and it was the perfect excuse to get outside, walk the neighborhood, and disconnect from our phones and screens for a while. The puzzles were clever and varied. My personal favorite was listening to the witness statements about where the ghosts were spotted and deducing who was telling the truth to uncover a name, a really satisfying bit of logic. Someone else in our group loved the teacups puzzle toward the end. The whole thing struck a great balance of challenging without being frustrating. We'll definitely be recommending Escapely to friends and can't wait to tackle our next game, whether here in the city or somewhere new. Thanks for a great time!
It was a blast! The best part was arriving at the History Trail just in time to see the vows of a wedding behind the Chicago History Museum -- we love the way Escapely boxes allow for that serendipitous kind of moment. In the game itself, we really enjoyed the recorded "ghost sightings" along Wells Street --- they were really well-written and recorded and made for a fun interactive puzzle.
Lots of fun! The puzzles were nicely difficult. The one ambiguity problem we had was the one where you go to open the Death envelope. We walked to the three-digit address instead of searching for the plaza name, and ended up south of the river...
We had a great time with Escapely Chicago Old Town. We used Escapely the year before (Chicago Fulton Market), so this was our second box. This round, it was just me, my wife and our 9-year-old daughter. Our daughter loved all of the hands-on items in the box and did a great job noticing small things that the grownups might have overlooked. My wife and I were able to help with some of the more challenging puzzles. We enjoyed the haunted theme of the box, and loved coming back to Old Town, where we used to live. I would say that the difficulty was perfect for grownups, and kids over probably 8 years old would be able to help with the puzzles. Any younger and it's probably too challenging. We only had to use hints once or twice. The time of the box was perfect as well; we got to the city in the morning, solved the puzzles and then headed to nearby Pequod's for lunch. The only constructive feedback would be to see more of Old Town. Most of the puzzles are within a couple blocks on Wells Street, just north of North Avenue, with some right by the Chicago History Museum. Although it would have certainly extended the time to complete, there's definitely more of Old Town to see. But overall we had a great time and would highly recommend. We are a repeat customer and will be using Escapely again in the future.
