Meeting point
Meet your guide at Mathallen Food Hall’s main courtyard entrance (Vulkan 5). Look for the red brick building with “1908” above “MATHALLEN OSLO.” This entrance faces the open square near Dansens Hus. Do not go to the river bridge side with “Mathallen” in red letters — that’s the wrong entrance.
Starting at the historic Mathallen food hall, your guide will lead you on a walk through the buzzing district of Grünerløkka, where industry once ruled and culture now thrives. You’ll follow the Akerselva river, past colourful street art and local landmarks, and learn how this former working-class area became a hotspot for creativity, food, and culture.
• A Nordic tasting platter with minke whale, reindeer, moose, brunost, flatbread, and lingonberries
• A rich Wild Game Stew made with reindeer, moose, and venison in a creamy sauce with mash and berries
• One Norwegian craft beer or local soft drink from one of the best bars in town
• A salmon and lefse wrap with cream cheese, a classic Norwegian combination beloved across the country
• A choice between hot chocolate or iced cocoa near the Freia Chocolate Factory
• A heart-shaped Norwegian waffle topped with brunost, rømme, and raspberry jam

Very Disappointing
First of all. I would like to say Jack was great. But after that, my review is not so great. My husband and I have done food tours all over the world and this was the most expensive one and our least favorite. For $175 we only had three food stops that were actually not very interesting. We were pretty disappointed in the lack of food on this tour. Again, I would like to say Jack did a great job, but I would not recommend this tour to anyone traveling in Oslo.
Operator response
Hi Lisa,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time with Jack, and we’ll certainly pass your kind words on to him.
We're very sorry to hear that the tour itself did not meet your expectations. We always want our guests to leave having had a memorable and enjoyable experience, so we’re disappointed that this wasn’t the case for you and your party.
We would just like to clarify one point for anyone considering the tour.
While the experience visits three locations, it includes six different food and drink tastings across those venues, including reindeer stew, a Norwegian charcuterie selection, beer, salmon wraps, cocoa and a waffle. The tour is designed to introduce guests to a variety of Norwegian flavours and local food culture rather than simply to visit as many individual establishments as possible.
We also completely understand that guests who have taken food tours in other destinations will naturally make comparisons. Our pricing, however, reflects the local costs of running a guided food experience in Norway, where the cost of food, drink and hospitality can be considerably higher than in many other European destinations.
While we’re fortunate that the vast majority of our guests really enjoy the experience, we recognise that no tour will be the perfect fit for everyone, and we’re genuinely sorry that this one wasn’t the right experience for you. We nevertheless appreciate your feedback and, once again, are very glad that Jack made such a positive impression.
Kind regards,
Shaf

Great food tour and cultural experience
We loved our tour today in Oslo- we at delicious food and just as importantly got insights into Norway's history and culture. We loved the reindeer stew, the salamis, the waffles - all of it- and our tour guide Shad was excellent and engaging.

Jack is an engaging guide...
Jack is an engaging guide and the food sampled was lovely but limited to 3 stops. I felt it grossly overpriced for the area covered and food sampled.
Operator response
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you found Jack engaging and enjoyed the food sampled.
We’re sorry that you felt the tour did not represent good value. While the experience visits three locations, it includes six separate food and drink tastings across those venues, offering a range of Norwegian flavours and local cuisine.
Our pricing also reflects the costs of operating in Norway, where food, drink and hospitality costs are considerably higher than in many other European destinations. The tour is intended to combine the tastings with local insight, guiding and an introduction to the Grünerløkka area.
We appreciate that everyone’s experience and perception of value will differ, and we’re sorry that on this occasion the tour didn’t meet your expectations. We do appreciate your feedback and are glad that you enjoyed both Jack’s guiding and the food.
Kind regards,
Shaf

A great way to experience life as a local
Jack did a wonderful job helping us understand life as a local. We walked through a beautiful part of Oslo that is off the beaten track of “tourists”. The food on the tour was very good. Next time we’re in town we plan on getting reindeer stew and waffles again We are hooked. It was so good!

See a different view of Oslo!
Shaf and Kat were very good guides, and we were able to taste a variety of foods. I appreciated that the tour was "off the beaten path" and gave us a different perspective on Oslo. The amount of food was just about right - I've had other tours where only got very small bites, and others where I was completely stuffed by the end - this one was good and we still had appetite for a late dinner. Thanks!

We loved this - highly recommend it
We loved this tour. Shaf and kat were fabulous guides, engaging friendly and informative and we were with a lovely bunch of people on the tour - 9 of us in total so small and comfortable.
Great mix of sights exploring a lovely area of town, interesting history and tasty food.
Highly recommend this tour - great value for money we thought.
