Old Montreal Guided Food Tour with 6+ Local Delicacies Tastings

Description
Step into one of Old Montreal's most striking buildings, a former grand bank turned café, for a classic smoked salmon bagel that kicks off your Secret Food Tours experience in style. From there, wander the cobblestone streets to a local épicerie for a Québec cheese and charcuterie board full of regional flavor (on select days, this is swapped for something sweet instead). Next comes our secret stop: a spot locals love and most tourists never find. Tucked into a historic street, this Greek taverna serves authentic Mediterranean dishes: think fresh salads, house-made dips, and grilled specialties. What exactly you'll taste stays a surprise until you're there. No trip through Montreal is complete without poutine, so we keep it classic: crispy fries, squeaky cheese curds, and rich gravy. The province's top comfort food! We finish with two stops side by side: real Québec maple syrup straight from the forest, followed by a scoop of maple syrup ice cream.

Would we go again? Yes. This was a fun walking tour that a group of 9 of us took while in Montreal before a cruise. 3 were under 30 and 6 were over 60- a diverse group for sure! We started at our meeting place (a former grand bank building that is now a restaurant/workspace venue). The Montreal style bagel with salmon and cream cheese was very yummy! We continued to a gourmet market with a charcuterie board sampler (which was sparse)- we all wished we had more time to shop around in the small but well stocked food store. A maple syrup store with tasting was very popular and gave us plenty of energy to walk even more! The Greek restaurant stop was, quite frankly, disappointing. A salad and some olives plus one regular sized sausage to share with 4 other people. Nothing to write home about, sorry. The poutine (an eastern Canada dish) was in a fun bar but, are you kidding? Soggy fries with CANNED gravy on top is all they could do?? Our final stop, at a gelato store was really good! The strawberry gelato was some of the best I've ever had in all my travels. Now about our guide; Eric (aka "Skippy"). I have to say he was knowledgeable about the history & culinary scene of Old Montreal. He was pleasant and kept the tour moving. However, he took liberties with the name of the person who booked the tour which is, let's face it, rude. And maybe a new battery in the ol' hearing aid wouldn't be such a bad idea either. But, as I said, we'd go again.
Darren was very funny and knowledgeable
I was hoping to try more authentic French Canadian foods rather than Greek food. We did have a taste of poutine, maple syrup and ice cream, smoked salmon and Canadian bagel, cheeses and meats but not sure how much of the cheeses and meats were local. Our guide Sandy was great! She kept us on schedule. She was knowledgeable about the history of Old Montreal which I appreciated.
Meeting guests from different places is one of the things that keeps these tours interesting. We’re glad your travels brought you to our door. Thank you for being part of Secret Food Tours!
Leisurely pace in a quaint part of the city. The stops were spaced out between little history lessons so you never felt stuffed or uncomfortable. Instead of taking a big red bus tour, I like to do this when I come to a new city.
We’re glad the day brought you our way. We hope the experience gave you plenty of reasons to enjoy the city and perhaps a few recommendations to pass along. It was a pleasure having you with Secret Food Tours!
Debbie our guide was great. She is very knowledgeable in the historical aspect of Montreal. The food was excellent. Would recommend.
We were happy to spend those hours together. We hope you enjoyed the pace of the day and had plenty of time to take in the food and surroundings. Thank you for joining Secret Food Tours!
Our tour guide Eric was great! He learned me and my family’s names and was exited to get to know us all. He is super cool and engaging too. Im only 15 and even I was impressed with the awesome history of Old Montreal. Eric took us to places with delicious food and explained the significance of the restaurant or culture. All of the other people in our group had cool stories to tell and by the end of the tour I felt like we all knew each other well. I would highly recommend this food tour for people of all ages. My little brother who is 11 enjoyed or tried most of the food and thought the history was cool!
It was wonderful to have you with us! We hope the tour added a little something extra to your visit and gave you some places you’ll want to remember. We’d be happy to welcome you again.
I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Eric was a knowledgeable and personable guide and made the experience a lot of fun. The food was great—the Greek restaurant was my favorite. The sausage was a standout dish. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area.
