Dhaka beyond the usual tourist paths

Old Dhaka City Tour is a fantastic way to experience the vibrant energy, history, and culture of one of the oldest parts of the city. The tour offers a deep dive into the narrow streets of Old Dhaka, where every corner feels alive with heritage, commerce, and daily life. Highlights typically include visits to historic sites, bustling markets, and iconic food spots, giving a well-rounded feel of the city’s unique character. The guides are usually knowledgeable and help bring context to the chaotic yet fascinating environment. Overall, it’s an unforgettable cultural experience for anyone wanting to see the real, living heartbeat of Dhaka beyond the usual tourist paths.

Worst and very expensive sightseeing tour of Dhaka

Worst tour experience Terrified. The fellow is unlicensed by tourism The tour guide actually planned to use Uber for one place and then walk most of the time and then use Rickshaw to move to another place He is polite but even after explaining no desire to walk much he continued with his plan getting sprayed by sewage water ( there was rain in forecast ) and not liking stray dogs said yes but did what he wanted I demanded to be returned to hotel immediately This is 94USD !! So if you are looking for an adventure fine but for me Dhaka bloody expensive 2 Uber rides to and from a boring standard wholesale flower market. Ps we had to wait for the Ubers to arrive so you are waiting and waiting and then you get the I just had a child last week etc etc Let s showcase an unpicked corpse lying on the sidewalk Police Hauling disheveled homeless people sleeping amongst the greenery First and last time I use Viator or tripadvisor to book a tour

Hello, I’m Javed, the manager from the Netherlands office, and I’m going to savor every single second of responding to this review. First, we’re deeply heartbroken that our tour failed to meet your exquisite, high-society standards. But do allow me to clear a few things up for you and anyone else reading this masterpiece of a complaint. Our guide, Bappi, who happens to be universally loved by every normal tourist we host, was flabbergasted right from the start. You actually asked the man to pull out his "official tour license." Ma'am, this is Bangladesh. Half the population doesn't even have a birth certificate, but you expected him to carry a framed diploma in his back pocket? We are a fully licensed tour operator. To even be listed on TripAdvisor, we had to submit stacks of commercial registry papers. So let’s call your claims what they are: complete fabrications. Then the tour began. Our description clearly states that we use whatever transportation makes sense to reach the starting point, strictly based on traffic. Light traffic? We take a car. After that, it’s all rickshaws. Why? Because unless your car can magically shrink to the size of a bicycle, it will not fit into Old Dhaka. The streets are slightly narrower than your average highway. Yet, the moment the Uber driver left, you flew into an immediate rage. Right after visiting the Shahbag Flower Market, you started complaining about how "filthy" the city was. I hate to break it to you, but Bangladesh has slightly different hygiene standards than a surgical unit. It’s dirty everywhere. Frankly, I shudder to think how you would have survived Old Dhaka itself, considering it makes the flower market look like a sterile cleanroom. The Pink Palace sits right on the river, and Sadarghat port is right on the water. Fun fact: that river is internationally classified as dead. The water is so heavily polluted that not even a single organism survives in it. I truly, genuinely wonder what tropical paradise you thought you were flying into when you bought that plane ticket. But let’s press on. After your grand rampage about hygiene, you moved on to stray cats and dogs. Apparently, street animals offend you, and you demanded they stay away. Lady, at this point, I’m at a total loss for words. There are literally stray dogs roaming the tarmac next to the landing strip at Dhaka International Airport. They are essentially the official welcoming committee. Again, what on earth made you think booking a tour of Old Dhaka was a good idea? Following the animal meltdown, you demanded to be dragged straight back to your hotel, proudly threatening a scathing TripAdvisor review. Our guide politely asked you to go easy on him, considering he had literally become a father just 16 hours prior. But as you so kindly admitted in your own review, you couldn't care less. Charming. I find it utterly mind-boggling how someone flies to one of the poorest, most densely populated places on the planet, books a walk through its most chaotic district, and then acts shocked by the lack of hygiene and the presence of stray animals. Old Dhaka has a thriving ecosystem where rats and crows feast like royalty—you will not find fatter rats anywhere on Earth. In the end, our guide apologized for the audacity of reality, turned around, and took you back to your hotel. I just have one final question for you: where do you think all the meat, fruit, and vegetables you ate at your hotel came from? They were unloaded right off the ships floating on that dead, toxic river I mentioned earlier. Bon appétit, and thanks for visiting!

Very good tour of Old Dhaka with Bappi Islam, including extra places not on the itinerary such as a tour of a ferry boat. Bali was very polite and accommodating.

A good way to see the real Dhaka

This tour gives a glimpse of what the real Dhaka looks like. Bappi with Dhaka Tours is very helpful, friendly and a nice guide to go on a tour with. He brought us on different sites with historical significance and we saw the real Dhaka when we went around the narrow crowded alleyways of Old Dhaka riding numerous rickshaws. It was an interesting experience and recommended if you only have a short time in the city.

★★★★★ Outstanding Experience with Bappi in Dhaka

I had the absolute pleasure of having Bappi as my guide in Dhaka, and I can honestly say it was one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had. From the very beginning, I didn’t feel like a customer — I felt like a friend. His warmth, kindness, and genuine care made me feel completely comfortable and safe at all times. Bappi showed me parts of Dhaka that I would never have discovered on my own. Not just the typical tourist spots, but authentic corners of the city that truly reflect its heart and soul. Thanks to him, I experienced the real Dhaka — vibrant, complex, and full of life. His knowledge, professionalism, and passion for his country are exceptional. If anyone is planning a trip to Bangladesh, I strongly recommend booking Bappi as your guide. It will transform your visit into something truly special. Five stars are not enough. Thank you, Bappi, for an unforgettable experience.

Wonderful trip through chaotic Dhaka

We have toured with Bappi through Old DHAKA. a wonderful day. The trip was custom planned and the transport was also fitted according to our needs and our adventurous sense. Seen all the highlights and certainly the chaotic city with occasionally very quiet places. Kudos to our guide Bappi with his vast knowledge of the city.

An unforgettable day in Old Dhaka – highly recommended

I had an amazing full-day Old Dhaka City Tour with my guide Bappi, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Bappi was incredibly kind, professional, and knowledgeable. He shared so much about the history of Old Dhaka, but also about daily life and his own personal story, which made the experience feel very meaningful. Throughout the entire day, I felt very safe and well taken care of, even in the busy and chaotic parts of the city. Everything was well organized, and the local food, rickshaw rides, and boat trip were great highlights. Bappi was always attentive, helped with logistics, took great photos of me, and made sure I had water and food when needed. This tour felt more like being shown around by a friend than a standard tour. I will remember this day and our conversations for a long time. Highly recommended – especially if you want an authentic, respectful, and safe introduction to Old Dhaka. Thank you, Bappi!
