Good experience at Diamond Head

The staff was helpful and friendly. the audio recording matched with the map and made the hike more interesting. The last part of the hike is challenging (I have a knee issue) but I was able to get to the top. I see the necessity of the schedule with some of the narrow areas and people going both up and down. My only comment is when I was scheduling this trip, it was not clear that you needed a park pass and the audio recording is just an extra. I heard someone in my hotel say he was going to hike Diamond Head & the employee asked if he had scheduled it. No he hadn't. I suggest just adding to Diamond Head description on the internet that you must schedule a date & get a pass

Terrible

Terrible Diamond head was free back in the day until the white people took over. The old white lady at the front gate was rude as hell.

Rip off

This is a very confusing thing to arrange online. I paid for the tickets, then got to Diamondhead, just to find out it was sold out, and we could NOT enter! This was AFTER paying for the reservation through Viator. I was told that this happens frequently by the staff at the gate. I would like to receive a FULL refund from Viator because we were not allowed entry.

Don’t use Viator for this activity.

The diamond head site would not accept our tickets through this site. We had to purchase different tickets directly through them.

Awful customer service

Make sure this is the trip you are for sure going on. We made a mistake on the day & could not get refunded at all. $150 gone.

Diamond Head challenge

Hydration and sunscreen is important. Have a source of water. Be mindful of the trail leading up and down Diamond Head. If a person suffers of knee pain, make sure to take your time and I recommend to have a walking stick. For those carrying infants, have a type of baby carrier that keeps your hands free. For those that are claustrophobic, when entering the narrow tunnel I recommend to maintain the focus on the ground when walking. It’s a beautiful view of Waikīkī & its surroundings once reaching the summit. Overall this hike met my expectations. 10/10

Diamond head tour

There are 2 passes needed. One with the State, and the other for the self-guided audio tour - If - you want to have information during the hike. For the audio tour the price was about $9 per person, so I got 3. They give you a phone loaded with a recording that's separated by each of 20 stations. It was very crowded when we went, and we opted to listen on the way down rather than up, and instead of us each having our own learning experience - and out of sync with each other - we just listened on one phone, without the ear buds. That way we could discuss the information as we started walking again. It worked for us, anyway. The people at the Visitors booth were very nice, the hike was challenging, but rewarding. I would have not wanted to miss it.
