Itinerary
Columbus Park, formerly known as Mulberry Bend Park, Five Points Park and Paradise Park, is a public park in Chinatown, Manhattan, in New York City that was built in 1897. During the 19th century, this was the most dangerous ghetto area of immigrant New York, as portrayed in the book and film Gangs of New York.
Vibrant Chinatown is a densely populated neighborhood that draws foodies and tourists to its many Chinese and Southeast Asian restaurants for dumplings, pork buns and hand-pulled noodles. The busy sidewalks are packed with souvenir stores, bubble tea shops, and markets selling everything from fresh and dried fish to herbs and spices. Locals hang out in leafy Columbus Park for Tai Chi, chess and mahjong.
Canal Street is a Lower Manhattan thoroughfare where cultures collide. It's well-known for its bargain shopping scene. The street stretches from near the Hudson River to East Broadway and serves as the gateway to Chinatown, Little Italy, SoHo, and Tribeca.
Little Italy is a neighborhood in Lower Manhattan in New York City, known for its large Italian population. It is bounded on the west by Tribeca and Soho, on the south by Chinatown, on the east by the Bowery and Lower East Side, and on the north by Nolita.
Picturesque Nolita is a charming, upscale area with a trendy vibe. It's known for its chic shopping scene, and has plenty of designer jewelry shops, unique clothing boutiques and home-design stores. Fashionably casual crowds stroll the neighborhood and fill the popular sidewalk cafes, chic bars and trendy restaurants. On weekends, street vendors selling hand-made jewelry and artwork line Prince Street.

This review is in no way a reflection on Renee, our guide, who is warm and funny and enthusiastic. But the tour itself could use some work. The foods we tried were not interesting or unique, especially for the price. The rating is for the guide who was wonderful and for the history which was interesting. But we went back to Chinatown and curated our own food tour which was more interesting, tastier and way cheaper. We do food tours around the world and felt this was unfortunately the most underwhelming food tour we've ever taken.
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Jennifer. We’re glad to hear that Renee made the experience enjoyable with her hospitality and enthusiasm, and that you also found the history along the way interesting. We take the food side of our tours seriously, and each experience is thoughtfully curated to showcase what we believe represents the best of the local food scene. That said, we appreciate your perspective, especially as someone who has experienced food tours in many places around the world. Feedback like yours gives us another perspective to consider as we continue refining the experience. We’re glad you enjoyed your time with Renee, and we’d love the opportunity to welcome you back on another Secret Food Tour in the future and give you an experience that better matches what you’re looking for!

The food on the tour was excellent and good portions. Dan Dan noodles and pineapple bao buns were my highlights. Dom was a pleasant guide and kicked it up a notch with some karaoke that we all joined in on.
