Mano was a very informative and great guide. We had plenty of time to explore and learn about D-day.
A brilliant half-day tour of Pointe du Hoc, the American Cemetery, and Omaha Beach. Manon was an exceptional guide — knowledgeable, articulate, and full of fascinating history about the D-Day campaign. She also gave us some lovely background info on present-day Normandy and Bayeux. Can't recommend this tour enough for a great overview!
What a disappointment. I’ve waited for this opportunity for so long…to see, learn and experience Normandy. Pros: meet up place was good and timely. Cons: our host could not figure out how to work the microphone in the van and we road mostly in silence to and from each location. She apologized but really didn’t seem to care to try to fix it. When we arrived at each location our guide pretty much read the signs posted about the area and that was it. Eventually we started asking more questions and was able to get more knowledge about the area but it required prompting. Once at Normandy American Cemetery we were left on our own to explore, however, were not told that the gift shop and on site museum closed earlier then the cemetery. If I’d have known that I would have started there. We heard it was exceptionally well done and worth a visit so we drove 40 minutes out the next day on our own just to check it out. It was worth the drive. Overall, I feel the guide makes or breaks a tour and our guide unfortunately failed all the way around.
Busy day, but worth it. We were lucky to have a beautiful day. Try to be at American cemetery at 16:00.
It covered alot for the time aloud but didnt consume the intire day....our guid was truley amazing and very full of knowledege
It was a wonderful experience. Our tour guide was courteous, friendly and very knowledgeable. All the relevant information was shared in great detail. Highly recommended.
Our first trip to Normandy and we decided to go with a half day tour; perfect! Our guide Pauline was just terrific and extremely knowledgeable and incredibly friendly
My husband and I did this half day trip and enjoyed it. I can’t remember if we had a choice, but ours started at 1:00 and we got back around 6:00. We stayed right in Bayeux, so being picked up and dropped off at the hotel was nice and convenient. Our guide was nice and spoke good English. The only thing that was disappointing was that her headset stopped working about halfway through the trip, so if you were near the back of the van, you couldn’t really hear what she was saying as she was driving from place to place. We happened to be in the very back and felt like we missed out a good bit due to this. Also note that the tour guide doesn’t walk with you the entire time to explain things as you are going through. She will get out and take you into the area and will use her binder with pictures to explain what you will see, but she’s not always with you explaining everything the whole time. I actually prefer this so that you can wander at your own pace, but I did see some guides (maybe private ones) where the tour guide was walking with them in each place or building explaining things in real time. I felt like 5 hours was enough time to see what we wanted to see. We first went to Point du Hoc and spent about 30 minutes wandering around there after the guide let us free. Then we went to Omaha Beach and had about 25 minutes there (she told us we would come back later to look at it some more). Then we went to the American Cemetery and had about 45 minutes there. Note that you can’t (or at least we couldn’t at that time) walk out and look at any graves up close. They had them all roped off. Then we went back to Omaha Beach and had about 20 minutes to walk on the beach area. It was a good tour and wasn’t exhausting. I would recommend if you want to see the highlights.
Visited Pt du Hoc, Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery. Stefan changed up our schedule so we could be at the American cemetery when the US flags were retired - very moving.
