Description

Looking for a unique walking tour in Bergen that takes you away from the busy crowded areas of Bryggen and the fish market? Discover one of the best-kept secrets in the city with this walking tour of the Nordnes peninsula. Nordnes is a 1km (0.6 mile) long peninsula that stretches into Bergen harbour. While the Hanseatic League were dominating trade on Bryggen, Nordnes is where the Norwegian merchants developed their businesses. But Nordnes was also the centre of power in Bergen, and it was the city’s courthouse and execution site for hundreds of years. It's also where witches were burned in the 16th and 17th centuries. In the 19th century, it became a hub of sailors and red-light district, with the narrow, dark alleys the perfect place to hide undercover activity. Today it is a popular (and expensive) neighbourhood with families, schools, and beautiful parks. We limit the group size as this tour is through a residential neighbourhood. You ask as many questions as you want!

Fun Tour!

Nicholas was a very sympathetic and fun guide and the tour is definitely recommendable! Be careful that you stand at the main entrance of the building for meeting. The side entrances look like main ones and you’ll miss the group!

Walking tour of old Bergen

Great tour. Good balance of detail and interest, Nicholas was friendly and engaging. Tour length was perfect- we covered a lot of old Bergen, and finished before we got tired.

FABULOUS

We did this self-guided tour late in the evening. What a magnificent discovery. It was a fabulous route through these narrow streets with colorful facades. An indelible memory.

Amazing tour

We had an amazing time on this tour! It was incredibly informative, but also fun and engaging. Our guide RIGMOR kept us focused the whole time with great storytelling, a wonderful sense of humour, and lots of interesting facts about Bergen. We also really appreciated all the local recommendations for restaurants and cafés, which made the rest of our visit even better. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bergen. It was one of the highlights of our trip!

Great tour of Bergen

Nicholas, What an amazing tour of Bergen! Perfect choice for our first few hours in the city. Our guide gave us some great stories to understand the city’s past and present. We took his dining tips and had some great meals. He also hung around after to answer everyone’s questions. 10 out of 10. Take this tour!!

A wonderful walking tour on beautiful Nordnes

We went on a great walk on Nordnes , it was the "Historic Nordnes: Merchants, Witches, Crime, & Hidden Alleys" Our tourguide Rigmor was very knowledgeable and made all the historical information come alive. When the tour ended Rigmor also had good advice on where to eat and drink which was a nice bonus. It is well worth going on this walk for everyone wanting to learn about history in an entertaining way, even if you're from Bergen, like me, or from out of town. Highly recommended!

Walk on the other side of the street and be rewarded

This was an excellent tour hosted by our guide Dane, who lives in the area so he was able to give us the full benefit of his local knowledge. He was enthusiastic, knowlegable and open to any questions we had. As the title says this area is a hidden gem, with so many lovely old streets and a lovely headland, very much worth a visit. Dane had many interesting stories about the history of this area. We had been in Bergen before so had seen the main sites of Bryggen etc, so it was good to be able to hear some more about a less visited but still very interesting part of Bergen. We would highly reccommend giving this area a look as it is just as interesting and less busy than the usual Bryggen area. We were especially pleased that they ran the tour for us as the two of us were the only ones on the walk, many other tours would have been cancelled if a minimum wasn't reached, so this was good customer service from I love Bergn.

Bergen walking tour

Caoimhe showed real knowledge of and passion for the city, which was remarkable considering she has only lived there for a year. A very informative tour.
