Nighthawk Birding Guided Tours in Antigua Guatemala

Marty was a fantastic birding guide! Communication before the bird walk was great. He was very responsive with all my questions. Meeting him at the park was also super easy as he took care of the park entrance process for us. He also provided binoculars and gave us some useful tips on how to use them for birding. I was especially impressed by his knowledge and ability to identify birds visually and by their calls. Very cool to learn he works for Merlin Bird app and get to learn more about it. He was also very friendly and easygoing, which made the whole walk relaxed and fun. I think Marty would be a great guide for both beginners and more experienced birders. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Guatemala who wants to see the country’s incredible birdlife. I’ll definitely be going on another bird walk with him the next time I’m in Guatemala!

I had so much fun learning about all the birds you can find in Antigua! Marty is so friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Not only did we get to find and identify birds, but we also got to learn more about Antigua's culture, history, and agriculture. It was really nice that we got to take our time to spot birds while also enjoying gorgeous views of the valley and volcanoes. We also got a list of all the birds we spotted, so I didn't have to write them down! I love this so much because it helped me stay present during the tour.

Had a great time birding with Martin. His knowledge of species is incredible, and I enjoyed the educational discussions about the area. Would highly recommend!

Our birding experience with Marty in Guatemala was exceptional. We are new to birding, but that never mattered. He was incredibly patient, kind, and genuinely brilliant at what he does, with an amazing ability to identify birds by sound alone. He gave clear directions, took photos, and used a laser pointer sparingly and responsibly. Marty is also knowledgeable about the local flora, flexible, accommodating, and even provided excellent binoculars for last-minute additions to our group. Most importantly, he is simply a cool, easygoing person who made the entire experience fun. We highly recommend him and hope to continue our birding adventures with him beyond Guatemala. 10 out of 10!

Birding with Marty was one of the highlights of our trip to Antigua! The walk on El Hato was beautiful, with spectacular views of the volcanos, Antigua and surrounding villages. And the birds! We saw over 30 varieties, including an acorn woodpecker! Marty was a knowledgable, personable guide, and he quickly followed up with an ebird list and photos from the day. A perfect morning for any nature lover.

I recommend booking this tour if you’re in Guatemala! I did the Earth Lodge more specifically. Marty was not only professional and knowledgeable, he made the tour so fun!! I teared up multiple times because of how in awe I was of the views, the birds, and just how incredible the experience was.

Marty was extremely charming, helpful funny and knowledgable throughout our tour. He demonstrated an incredible ability to identify birds by sound alone - and also to critique the apps that do so because he actually works for them to help train them! We’d initially booked on a different trail, but Marty took us on a different one (finca pilar) instead because of the time of year. I’m so glad we did because we saw the hummingbirds and they were so mesmerising. You really felt his excitement when he saw birds and it rubbed off on us. At the end we received a full summary of the birds we saw, along with impressive photos. This has definitely been a highlight of our trip - would highly recommend!

Had an absolutely amazing experience with Martin, who was extremely knowledgeable about both the natural landscape and Guatemalan history/politics that affect the landscape. It was my first time birding, and I found it to be accessible and much more fun than I originally expected. I would recommend booking this tour to anyone!!
