Also known as Plaza de la Constitución, the Zocalo is located at the heart of the Historic Center in Mexico City. It is surrounded by the Metropolitan Cathedral, Palacio Nacional (City Hall), former Government Palace, and the Government Building. It was inaugurated in 1910 to commemorate the 100 anniversary of Mexico´s Independence, it is a mausoleum for the heroes that lost their lives during this war. It is one of the most emblematic monuments of the city and a cultural icon, a symbol of freedom.
This monument is in honor of Benito Juárez, a former Mexican president. It has a neoclassic style and is formed by 12 Doric columns made of marble. It looks stunning illuminated at night!
