Great Experiance and a Nice Night Out

Amazing experience. The purification ceremony was unlike any other experience I have had before. The swim in the cenote following the ceremony was nice and gave us time to bond with others in the tour group. Dinner was delicious and I felt welcomed in the village.

Reservation Cancelled

The operator cancelled my booking a day after accepting payment. I was offered a refund, which wasn’t what I wanted, but was better than nothing. The operator’s communication implied that the fault was mine (“Because the booking was made at the last moment…), which may mean that they have no plans to change their system to avoid accepting payment for a trip they can’t provide. The operator had trips available the next two days but would not provide these at the same price as they were private tours. I still recommend the trip but maybe try another operator if you want a sure thing.

Operator response

Dear Christina! Thank you very much for your feedback. These 2 stars do unfortunately affect our rating, but we would like to clarify that you did not actually take our tour, and therefore cannot evaluate the experience itself. You made the reservation late at night for the following day, when our office was already closed. Early in the morning, as soon as we checked availability, we immediately informed you that, unfortunately, there were no seats left from Cancun. We also offered to move your booking to Saturday (as clearly stated during the booking process, our shared group tour operates only on Wednesdays and Saturdays; on other days it is available only as a private tour, since the Mayan community does not accept large groups daily). Alternatively, we offered a full refund. You told us that you would no longer be here on Saturday and preferred a refund. We processed the cancellation with a full refund right away. Later, you requested a private tour on a day convenient for you at the same price as the shared group tour. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a private tour at the group rate, especially since your refund had already been processed at that point. We always aim for transparent communication and do our best to accommodate last-minute bookings whenever possible, but in this case availability simply was not there. Thank you again for your understanding. Best regards, Olga Sakhrannaia The OlMar Travel Mexico Team

Terrible Service

No communication on where to pick up. No response when calling number provided. No help. Don’t book. Terrible experience. Didn’t even get to go. They sent one message to say pick up time but not where to go, or what van/car to look out for when being picked up. You can’t reach anyone. They just take your money with ZERO communication.

Operator response

Dear Monet, We’re sorry for the misunderstanding, but our guide was at the meeting point on time and spent over 10 minutes looking for you both inside and outside the lobby — we also have photo evidence confirming this. The phone numbers for voice calls are clearly listed on your voucher. You tried to contact us through WhatsApp calls, but as mentioned in the confirmation message, we only receive text messages on WhatsApp. Unfortunately, we didn’t receive any regular phone calls from you. Even though you didn’t show up, we still issued a 100% refund as a gesture of goodwill. We always aim for clear communication and excellent service for all our guests. Kind regards, OlMar Travel Mexico

This is one of the best most amazing underrated experiences I had during my stay in Tulum. If I'm being honest, I was quite skeptical due to some of the reviews but I'm glad I followed through with doing it. To start, our pick up was super easy as our meeting point was the Super Aki in Tulum town. Colin was so great at explaining what a Temazcal is and gave us such a great breakdown of what to expect. We picked up 3 other people and made our way to the Mayan village of Dos Palmas. The Mayan people there were so friendly and welcoming. There were other tours separate from ours that were there also. In total, there was about 30-40 participants. The shaman allowed time for the guides to translate what was happening during the whole process. Once inside the temazcal structure, the guides/shaman made sure to let us know if we werent feeling well and needed to exit, the process in doing that. They explainined it multiple times. It was such a beautiful and healing experience to say the least. You WILL sweat and it WILL get hot. It is all about breath work and staying calm and just focusing on whatever intention or relase you have intended for the experience. The cenote swin after was so nice and refreshing and a nice contrast of the hot steamy Temazcal. The dinner prepared by the Mayan women was very delicious. The locals do have a small shop of items that are handmade souvenirs so i'd recommend bringing money if you'd like to buy it from the locals.

Magical

Beautiful location in hotel with beautiful people who were kind and very helpful through our first time going to a Temezcal. I would go back again and again I would also stay in that hotel. All of their healing amenities were wonderful although we stayed at a beautiful hotel nearby. We still enjoyed both.

We were collected outside agreed pick up point on time. Tour operator had confirmed time and location prior via WhatsApp We travelled from downtown Cancun to the location with pickups along the way including Tulum and PDC, where we collected our guide Erica Erica is amazing , she is perfect as a guide for this trip as she lives a holistic lifestyle, is very friendly and inviting and speaks 6 languages and went out of her way to make sure everyone in the group understood (English, Spanish, French and Italian in the group) When arriving you are given a small tour of the community. This is an actual living breathing location with real Mayan people. Please be respectful to them and their customs You’re then given a chance to change a refresh before sundown, then over to an area to begin the ritual which begins outside. Erica explained as much as she could throughout without being invasive You then go into the hut where the ceremony begins. It can get quite hot but I’d liken to being in a sauna, it is small and can feel claustrophobic but I’d advice to sit back, close your eyes and breath and focus on whatever you want to achieve If you struggle there are points at which the shaman will check if all are ok and you can step out or you can call out during if really need be After the ceremony is complete, you can swim in the denote nearby to cool down. Then change and dry off before a humble meal prepared by the locals of chicken , rice and potatoes. Once done time is given to look at a local gift shop before returning Please be mindful that the travel time can be a while , I’d suggest a pack lunch if you have dietary requirements OR feel you will get hungry on your way back

Amazing

Wonderful experience and lovely people. Except for a German guide who was in training, he was very rude. He didn't want us to sit down to eat with them because we were Mexicans. When we are in Mexico, imagine having racism from foreigners in Mexican lands!!! wtf

Worst 'holiday experience' ever

It's nothing like it says it is total tourist trap don't go. It wasn't local it was 3 1/2 away. That's 7 hours of travel. Guide only new about 8 to English words. No sea horns. No cups as a survivor

Operator response

Dear Natasha! Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. To clarify, the Mayan village where the Temazcal ceremony takes place is located near Tulum, approximately 2.5-3 hours away from Cancun and Costa Mujeres. While the travel time can vary depending on traffic, we choose this location because it offers an authentic and meaningful experience in a real Mayan community, preserving the traditions of the ceremony. Additionally, our tour includes a dinner after the ceremony to ensure guests are comfortable, especially since many return to their hotels later in the evening. We strive to provide a high-quality and immersive cultural experience, and we appreciate your input as we continually work to improve. If you would like to discuss your experience further or share more details, please feel free to reach out to us directly. Your feedback is valuable to us. Best regards, The OlMar Travel Mexico Team

Nice ceremony

The ceremony was very nice and emotional. the bath afterwards in the Zenote was the highlight. if the people in the Temazcal had not spoken constantly, it would have been even better. the dinner was okay, not special. the guides were good and you felt comfortable. the long way from Cancun to nearby Tulum was very worthwhile.

Transporting back in time... to the Mayan World.

Wonderful to experience a mayan ceremony/ritual in an authenitic mayan village. Brings things back down to earth when living in the technological/digital world. The pick up/drive from Cancun was a bit long but well worth it.
