If the guide asks you to go to an Indian arts and crafts store/market, politely refuse. The market is called Art India. As someone who lives in the city - Art India is an overpriced tourist trap. You can find the same merchandise for way less at so many other shopping locations. I don’t blame the tour guide or the driver, who were incredibly polite and did an excellent job. I’m assuming the company has a relationship/commission deal with Art India and asks all their guides to recommend it. Read that stores’ reviews and you will see all the one stars, bad experiences. A lot of tourists aren’t used to the dog and pony show sales tactics in India. You arrive, sit in a gallery, get a demonstration, they give you tea, talk about the history of Indian crafts, how the government helps with shipping to the US to preserve the ancient art, so nooooo pressure to buy, … but then the sales people try to get you to buy everything: rugs, scarves, clothing, jewelry, etc. Everything is overpriced stuff you can find in other markets for waaaaaayyyyyyy less. It’s just insulting. As for the actual tour, it went really well. The driver was always rushing out to open the doors. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the area and spoke excellent English. He kept us on track, so we were able to see all the sights we requested for the customized tour. Make sure you bring cash for the entrances fees, souvenirs and to tip your guides. But otherwise it is a good option to see an overview of the area while staying safe and enjoying the car AC.
