Please visit! You won’t regret it!
This was a very last minute visit to Natuwa. We were staying at the Koora Hotel next door and had transportation picking us up at 10:30 am to take us to Manuel Antonio but I really wanted to visit and I’m so glad we did. This was truly a highlight of our 12 day trip to Costa Rica. We were able to see all 12 sloths there and many up close. Unable to survive on their own in the wild, animals are taken to the sanctuary where they receive the medical care and the natural environment they need to thrive. Our guide was very informative and my family truly loved this experience and all that we learned.

Macaws, Sloths, Jaguars
Went here for a private tour booked through another company. We wanted to see sloths, not far from the Puntarenas port. It’s about a 45 minute drive. They have 100s of rescued and injured/recovering birds. They currently have 12 sloths, which we were able to see high up in the trees and 2 recovering injured sloths in cages. Great guide on our private tour.

Wonderful tour and education.
We got a true appreciation for animal conservation and learned so much. Wish these ideals would take hold in our country.

Worth Visiting for the Animals
We visited Natuwa Sanctuary during our honeymoon through Costa Rica and overall had a good experience. The sanctuary has an impressive variety of animals. We even saw a jaguar and a danta (tapir), which was a huge highlight. There were plenty of other species to see as well, and since we went during the low season, it wasn’t crowded at all, which made it easy to explore at our own pace.
Our tour guide was very kind and accommodating. She even gave us a private tour right before her lunch break, which we really appreciated. However, we would’ve loved to hear more detailed information about the animals, their stories, and the sanctuary’s conservation efforts.
Still, the experience was worthwhile, and we’re glad we went. If you’re in the area and want to see a wide range of animals up close without big crowds, Natuwa is definitely worth a stop.
