Itinerary

120 min

Naritasan Shinshoji Temple is a historic temple, especially famous for its goma prayer. The main hall of the temple is majestic, and the splendid carvings in the inner sanctuary are a highlight of the temple. Nearby is the vast Naritasan Park, where visitors can enjoy the seasonal beauty of the area. The Niomon Gate and the three-story pagoda, both designated as important cultural properties, are also must-sees. Along the approach to the temple, there is a historic shopping street where visitors can enjoy local specialties after visiting the temple. Shinsho-ji Temple is a place where you can purify your body and soul and enjoy history and nature to the fullest. The temple opens until 16:00; if you would like to book the tour later than 4 p.m., we will show you different spots.

120 min

It has prospered as a temple town since the Edo period, and the remnants of that time still remain today, and the townscape, which is full of the Edo atmosphere, has been designated as a "Japanese Heritage Site." There are more than 150 restaurants and souvenir shops along the approach, where you can enjoy gourmet food such as the famous eel dish and a wide selection of souvenirs.

60 min

Located just a short walk from Narita-san Shinshoji Temple, Naritasan Park is a beautifully landscaped Japanese garden that offers a peaceful retreat from the bustling streets of Narita. Spanning over 165,000 square meters, the park is known for its tranquil atmosphere, seasonal beauty, and traditional design elements. Wander through winding paths that lead past koi-filled ponds, elegant bridges, and meticulously maintained trees. Visitors can enjoy cherry blossoms in the spring, vibrant maple leaves in the autumn, and calming greenery throughout the year. The park also features several scenic viewpoints, a calligraphy museum, and areas perfect for quiet reflection. Whether you're seeking a leisurely stroll or a moment of Zen, Naritasan Park provides a harmonious blend of nature, culture, and history—making it a must-visit spot for travelers exploring Narita.

Don't miss this tour.

I loved my layover tour with Yumi! She made it easy and fun to tour Narita. It really is a hidden gem. This was my first time in Japan and now I have a much better understanding of the culture. Yumi is very knowledgeable and provides information that only someone who has lived in both Japan and the US can provide. It was such a fun and easy day. We even stopped at an amazing restaurant for the Narita delicacy, eel. I definitely want to spend more time in Japan and will make touring with Yumi a big part of that!

A day in Narita

We had a great day with Nobu Sato exploring Narita Shinshoji Temple and the Sakura Samurai Residence. He was friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, and really brought the history to life. You could tell he truly cares about what he does. It was one of the highlights of our trip—highly recommend if you’re in the area.

Great quick visit to Narita on a long layover!

Highly recommend this tour if you have a decent layover in Narita and want a quick visit! This was my first time visiting Japan, so wanted to take advantage of a long layover. Our flight ended up being delayed by several hours, but the company and our guide Mako were so helpful and accommodating - we were able to do a shortened tour of the major sights and still get back to the airport with plenty of time. Our guide Mako was so thoughtful in organizing our short time to maximize what we got to see and do, and she was very patient waiting for all our photo-taking. I would love to come back to spend more time in Narita! Overall, highly recommend this layover tour and our guide Mako!

Operator response

Dear Megan, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such a kind and thoughtful review. We’re so glad to hear that, despite your flight delay and the shortened tour time, you were still able to enjoy the unique architecture and rich culture of Narita. It brings us great joy to know that you had a meaningful experience during your layover. We’re also happy to hear that our guide, Mako, was able to support you throughout and help make the most of your time. We will be sure to share your kind words with her. We truly hope to welcome you back to Japan in the future for a longer visit. Thank you again for choosing our service. Warm regards, Moeka MY Travel Consulting Inc.

Narita Temple was a great stop on our layover. Henry was a great guide - early and met us right at arrivals.

Henry was very thorough and relaxed. Easy to talk to and very accommodating. The Temple grounds were lovely and we were very happy to get out of the airport and stretch our legs. He showed us great local food and some local handicrafts. If you have 6 hours or more layover I recommend Henry. It’s always so nice to spend time with a local guide.

Operator response

Exploring Narita's beautiful temple grounds, trying local food, and discovering handicrafts is a great way to make the most of your time outside the airport. It's wonderful that you found the experience both relaxing and engaging—having a knowledgeable local guide truly makes a difference! We appreciate your recommendation and hope to see you again on your next trip! Manami

Good way to spend the time on a long layover

Had a great day with Mike. Had an 11 hour layover in Narita and booked this last minute. We were thankful that Mike picked up the trip. He was so friendly and helpful. He came to the airport and got us, helped us find storage for our bags, and got us on the train to downtown. He took us to the Naritasan Shinsho-ji temple. We walked around the gardens and watched the priests do the Ogoma fire prayer. Then he took us for an authentic Japanese lunch. Then we strolled around the shops. We had eel, matcha, sake, and Taiyaki. It was a good day.

Operator response

Thank you so much for the wonderful review for us! We would be more happy to provide the tours in Japan in the near future. Hope we can meet you again soon. Best wishes, Maru
