Meet your guide on Piazza Dante and start your tour through the ancient streets of Neapolis. We will take you back to Greek and Roman times through the cheerful alleys of ancient Naples.
Port'Alba, located on the left side of Piazza Dante, is one of the oldest gates of the city of Naples; this historic pertugio introduces the historic center of Naples and the Decumanus Major.
On the western side of the square it is possible to admire some remains of the walls of the Greek Neapolis. It is a fortification system made of compact tufa blocks and the walls have been dated, roughly, to the second half of the 4th century BC.
Heart of the historic center of Naples lies Via dei Tribunali also known as Decumano Maggiore. Historic businesses, such as some of the most famous Neapolitan pizzerias, and numerous monuments are concentrated along the route. From the main artery of Via dei Tribunali other historic city alleys develop, including Via San Gregorio Armeno the famous street of nativity scenes.

The picturesque street that runs from the Quartieri Spagnoli to the neighborhood of Forcella bisecting the Neapolitan city, known as the Decumano Inferiore. Walking along this street is a journey inside the "real Naples": here among beautiful churches, apartments where locals live, old buildings and a few small bars you can admire the most genuine essence of the city.
Tour will end in Piazza del Gesù Nuovo , one of the most important squares in the historic center of Naples surrounded by the church of the same name , Basilica of Santa Chiara and characteristic restaurants.

Gianluca was 10/10, he is a passionate Neapolitan who told us the history of Naples very well, adding his touch of humor, excelling in every situation since it started to rain; he was attentive to the safety of the group at all times, the best tour I have done, many gastronomic recommendations and places to visit as well, he informed us and clarified doubts for everyone, I ended up in love with this great city to the point of wanting to return soon, thank you very much for everything.
We did the Free Tour with Gianluca, and even though there was some adversity due to the rain, he knew how to resolve it very well; we were able to complete the Tour completely normally, it was very fun and interesting at all times, and we learned many things about Naples and its inhabitants thanks to him. Without a doubt we will return to Naples and if he has another different Tour we will hire him again. Naples is an exciting city but, for me, not easy, not immediate: it needs a hand that knows how to reveal it to you layer after layer. Ours was Gianluca's, and it really made the difference for us, as we were getting off the MSC Divina for only a few hours before leaving again. It must be said for the sake of honesty that ours was a "cultural street food tour" and not the one described in the listing to which this review is linked (I didn't find the correct link). Furthermore, our tour did not touch the historic center but wound through the monumental beauties of the city. With Gianluca, every stop, gastronomic or otherwise, also became the starting point for an anecdote, a historical reference, an interpretation of the city that went well beyond the tasting itself. Those looking for this formula can ask the Napoli Official Tour agency directly, specifying their interest in this type of route. We especially appreciated Gianluca's ability to adapt perfectly to our needs: very helpful, honest. And then that rare quality that I adore, having the quick and flexible mind of a "cross-link man," an infinite network of knowledge and depth on whatever we encountered along the way that sparked our curiosity, capable of turning every street corner into a little story. With a guide like this, Naples stops being difficult to read and becomes impossible to forget.
