Have a 3-course lunch with fresh ingredients, and of course, a cup of tea and walk through the tea gardens. Situated at 7,200 ft., Kiambethu was bought and farmed by AB McDonell in 1910. He was the first person to grow, make and sell tea commercially in Kenya - now one of Kenya’s biggest exports. The farm house is set within beautiful gardens surrounded by acres of tea and indigenous forest - home to the Colobus monkey and plenty of other wildlife.

The Kiambethu Tea Farm tour was fantastic, with a delicious lunch offered as well. Obed was also a great and experienced driver. Highly recommend.
Thanks for sharing wonderful feedback review with guide Obed, we appreciate your booking with us.
This is a very nice tour of a small (relatively - it’s 2 acres), family owned tea farm that has been in operation in Kenya for a little over a century. The current owner’s grandfather got everything started, and she is continuing the legacy. You get to see the tea fields, learn how tea is grown & processed, drink some tea (of course) and tour the grounds (including a bit of a guided forest walk). Additionally, there’s a hand made lunch with fresh ice cream made from milk from cows on the property (yes, you get to see the cows too)! This is a good day trip and I would recommend it.

The view was outstanding at the tea farm and the depth of knowledge about tea and the process of making tea was amazing. Mwose, my guide, was so supportive and generous in sharing his knowledge about Nairobi and the tea farm. I highly recommend the tour.

MWose was our personal guide. He was very professional and knowledgeable on our one hour drive from our hotel pickup to the tea farm. I highly recommend him. The tea farm was an exceptional tour. The farm owner is a lovely woman who has a skilled and friendly team. The farm is beautiful, with lovely acres of tea trees and beautiful flower gardens, a dairy cow farm and forests. Our informative tour about tea growing was followed by tasting of wonderful tea and then a lovely outdoor lunch. We bought several boxes of tea. This is a definite tour in Nairobi of you have time.
We’re glad and delighted you shared your review, we appreciate your booking with us to the farm.
Our driver, Obed, was EXCEPTIONAL!! First, he was 15 minutes early for our departure. I appreciate his professionalism. As we journeyed to and from the the farm, he provided historical content of each neighborhood. The traffic got intense at times, however , Obed navigated the roads skillfully and with precision all while maintaining a cheerful disposition and a calm demeanor. His vehicle was well maintained and spacious. Fiona and Julius are Superstars! Each had a deep connection to the land and a genteel spirit which brought their rich stories about the land itself and the process of making tea to life. Fiona is descendant. Julius has been in the family's employ for almost 40 years. The respect they have for one another is admirable. A highlight was Julius' tour through the woods on the farm and his clear instruction of the medicinal trees. He is affectionately known as "the doctor " for these tours. The entire staff contributed to a spectacular fresh lunch. The home itself is a treasure. Its mantles are filled with photos of many distinguished visitors from former US presidents to British royalty. I highly endorse this trip and highly recommend Obed as driver.

👉We visited 🤩Kiambethu Tea Farm 🤩 on Sunday, 1 February 2026, and the experience was absolutely exceptional from start to finish. 🫖 ☕️ This tour is not only beautiful, but also deeply educational and meaningful. Tea plays such an important role in Kenya’s 🇰🇪 history, economy and culture, and the way this was explained made the visit incredibly enriching. Learning about the tea-growing process, the heritage of Kiambethu Tea Farm and the craftsmanship behind every cup was fascinating and very well presented. The quality of the tea itself was outstanding — truly excellent, aromatic and refined. It was a pleasure to taste tea produced with such care and tradition. The lunch was equally perfect: delicious, beautifully presented and made even more special by the stunning setting overlooking the tea fields and surrounding nature. Everything was prepared and served with so much warmth and attention to detail. A special thank you goes to 🚕🤩Tim, our driver, who was wonderful — extremely professional, kind, punctual and attentive. From the smooth and comfortable drive to his friendly and calm presence, he contributed greatly to making the entire day relaxed and enjoyable. I would also like to thank all the staff at 🤩Kiambethu Tea Farm🤩 for their hospitality, professionalism and genuine kindness. You can truly feel the care and pride everyone puts into their work. I highly recommend the Kiambethu Tea Farm Tour to anyone visiting Nairobi. It is a perfect combination of culture, nature, knowledge and excellent service — an unforgettable experience.🙌🙏🤩
