Beautiful Day Out

It was a fabulous day trip. The boat across Lake Luzern to Vitznau and then the cogwheel train up to the top of Mount Rigi. The views from the summit are just spectacular. We were going to go the previous day but checked the weather forecast and found it was going to be cloudy. We had fantastic views the next day its was beautiful. I have to say the cost is quite expensive €120 each for the boat and train - but everything in Switzerland is pricey.

Pradip Madgaonkar - The Rigi, known as the “Queen of the Mountains”, can be found in the heart of Switzerland.

Step out of the daily grind, and escape to Mount Rigi. Now is the time. Located in the heart of Central Switzerland, Mt. Rigi is easily accessible from every direction. It is home to Europe's first mountain railway, along with eight other mountain railways that take you high up into the impressive mountain world. Ride up, get off, and enjoy – it's as simple as that.

Operator response

Hello PradipMadgaonkar2 Thank you very much for your wonderful feedback. We’re delighted to hear that your escape to Mount Rigi was such an enjoyable experience and that our historic railways and easy accessibility contributed to a memorable visit. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Queen of the Mountains again soon. Kind regards Yvonne Guest-Service

Incredible Mountain Views

We took the train and bus to Vitznau, the cogwheel train to the top of Rigi Kulm then hiked down to Rigi First, walked the Unterstetten Felsenweg (the most amazing views), walked to Rigi Kaltbad, then took a cable car down to Wegis and a boat back to Luzern. The whole trip was amazing with beautiful mountain views. It was a clear day and we could see everything from the top of Rigi Kulm.

Operator response

Hello jbg74 Thank you very much for sharing your wonderful experience with us. We are delighted to hear that your journey across the Rigi was so memorable — from the train and bus ride to Vitznau, the cogwheel ride up to Rigi Kulm, and your hike down to Rigi First. The Unterstetten Felsenweg truly offers some of the most breathtaking views, and it’s great to know you were able to enjoy them on such a clear day. Ending your excursion with the cable car to Weggis and the boat back to Lucerne sounds like the perfect conclusion to a beautiful outing. We sincerely appreciate your kind feedback and hope to welcome you back to the Queen of the Mountains again soon. Kind regards Yvonne Guest-Service

Must do again!!

Absolutely not to be missed. Unfortunately, being in a hurry, I bought the entrance to the SPA/THERMAL BATHS separately, but it is better to get a single ticket. I went up on the first mountain railway in Europe, the Goldau - Rigi Kulm cogwheel railway. The cogwheel train takes you directly from Arth-Goldau to Rigi Kulm in just under an hour. From there I went down using the other line that passes by the thermal baths/spa, a 2-hour stop not to be missed for lovers of this kind of thing. And then down to the valley using the "breathtaking" cable car, because of how steep it is, which leads directly to Weggis on the lake. From there you can use buses/trains to reach any location. Wonderful experience!

Operator response

Hello J1489OEalessandrob Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the historic cogwheel railway ride, the relaxing stop at the SPA, and the impressive descent to Weggis. We appreciate your helpful note regarding the combined ticket — it’s indeed a convenient and often more economical choice. We’re glad your visit to the Rigi was such a memorable one and hope to welcome you again soon. Yvonne Baggenstos - Guest-Service Team

Was nice and nicely expensive. Never again

We have wanted to use Wednesday for a long time to go up on a historic train. We saved up a bit extra for that. Arrival and return trip to Goldau 4.5h. The trip up worked wonderfully. Train no. 6 and pilot car 32. Open and wonderful in this weather. According to the schedule, there are 3 departure times for the ascent and 3 for the descent. Not exactly cheap (192,- € and lunch for 2 people on the Rigi 56,- € (2 plate dishes - not exactly a star menu). What really rubbed us the wrong way: we wanted to go back down at 15:48 with the same two cars we came up on. We specifically waited for that. The motor car and the pilot car did come up, but no one was allowed to board at the top. Statement 1: that is our replacement vehicle, statement 2 from another Rigi employee: it is reserved for a group. The vehicles drove down toward the valley empty. We followed behind on the regular train. Somewhere along the way, people were picked up after all. In any case, a lot of people got off in Goldau. It was nice, but never again. Paid a lot of money and did not receive what was promised.

Operator response

A marvellous mountain top experience

My wife and I had a fabulous visit to Rigi, enjoying both the scenic train ride to the summit, and the fabulous 360 views of the surrounding countryside. Nature at its best, and now need to climb the mountain.

Great hike with unbelievable views.

This is an unbelievable hike with gorgeous views. Many ups and downs and some walks close to ridges but overall one of the best hikes and probably the best views I have ever seen. Rivals Path of the Gods on Amalfi Coast.

Operator response

Hello Dan M Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the hike and found the views to be some of the best you've ever seen. Hearing that it even rivals the Path of the Gods on the Amalfi Coast is an incredible compliment. The mix of ups and downs, ridge sections, and breathtaking scenery truly makes this trail special, and we're glad it left such a strong impression on you. We hope you’ll be back for more unforgettable adventures soon! Kind regards Yvonne Guest Service

Mixed feelings

Boattrip from Beckenried is nice. Luckily on the way back we did not take the direction Luzern cause that was overcrowded (end of May). This made us decide NOT to do the laketour the next day. From the boat to the train is very easy. Hiking down too (Kaltbad). So far very good. Why a 4 ? The place is overcrowded, the food is average... When you hike down to Kaltbad, best to take the long route (not following the traintrack). At least you have some peace. The train down was crowded. The views are great (as you might expect here :) ) So : should you do it ? Sure. Just expect to feel part of a big mass of people going up, taking pictures and going down. It's a smooth and well-oiled organisation (not cheap) catering more for the overseas visitors who spend 2 days Luzern ... than for the people who want to experience the area. That's fine, as long as you know it :)

Operator response

Hello pauld399 Thank you very much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the boat trip from Beckenried, the smooth connection to the train, and the beautiful views along the way. Your tip about choosing the longer hiking route to Kaltbad will certainly be helpful for other visitors looking for a quieter experience. At the same time, we’re sorry that the crowds and the food did not fully meet your expectations. Especially during late spring and summer, the area can become quite busy, and we understand how this can affect the overall experience. We continuously work on improving visitor flow and enhancing the quality of our services. Your comments about the atmosphere and the focus on international tourism are valuable to us. We aim to offer an enjoyable experience for all guests — whether they are discovering the region for the first time or returning to enjoy its natural beauty more deeply. We appreciate your honest review and hope to welcome you again at a calmer moment so you can enjoy the area even more. Kind regards Yvonne Guest-Service

Lovey

A lovely trip. Unfortunately it was very cloudy on the day we went. It would have been a fantastic trip with incredible views of it had been a clear day. Easy to book with everything needed.

Operator response

Dear Adventure433275, thank you for your feedback! We’re glad to hear the trip was easy to book and well organized. On a clear day, the experience truly offers a 360‑degree view, with 13 lakes and up to 620 mountain peaks visible. We hope you’ll have the chance to return in better weather to fully enjoy these incredible views. Sunny regards from the Queen of the Mountains, Ragna, Customer Service

Amazing

Bring your hiking shoes and walk along the beautiful Alpine trails. We walked along a beautiful trail and had magnificent views all to ourselves. If you are not a walker or hiker you can still enjoy the ride to the top, but it still does involve a significant uphill walk to the transport area.
