Itinerary
Begin your tour right from your hotel or apartment in Barcelona. We’ll pick you up, so please make sure to provide us with your exact location. Enjoy an overview of Barcelona city along the route, pass by Catalunya Square, Barcelona Cathedral, Passeig de Gracia and the Gaudi Houses, such as the Batllo and the Pedrera, and many other highlights.
We invite you to take an easy walk of around 30 min to enjoy one of the most astonishing views of the natural park.
Get on the road and head to the mystic mountain of Montserrat. This natural park, with its very peculiar peaks, protects the spiritual essence of Catalonia. For almost 1,000 years, a Benedictine community has lived in these mountains located 60 km away from Barcelona. Visit the Basilica of Montserrat, house of the serene image of the Black Virgin of Montserrat (the famous “Moreneta”), the saint patron of Catalonia, a polychrome Romanesque carving of the 12th century. On the way, listen to interesting stories about Catalonia and its bounding to the holy mountain, scene of pilgrims since ancient times and part of the route to Santiago de Compostela. Your guide will share important information to understand the heritage you will discover during the tour.
Marvel at the center of the pilgrimage and the basilica within the mountains.
Visit the medieval town of Cardona, a citadel famous for resisting Napoleon and for its salt mines.
While Iberian remains have always been linked to the richness of the Saline Valley, the origins of Cardona are in its Castle. The village, which grew from the fortification, is today incredibly well preserved. Besides the medieval charm of its streets and squares, you will also find examples of Gothic and Romanesque churches, chapels and civilian architecture. The geographical location of the fortress, on the top of the mountain, perfectly meets its historical need to defend the access to the salt mines. The structure also enjoys a privileged view of the Cardener River Valley. From the XI to the XV century, the castle served as the residence of some of the noblest lineages of lords in the country. As a defensive structure for the salt mines, the castle endured several sieges throughout its history.
This protected area is 1,800m long, 600m wide and has an area of 100ha. The site offers amazing views of the valley, old mine galleries, and a display of the mineral extraction machinery once used in this area. Have fun learning about the history of salt exploitation, the geology, mineralogy and botany of this region.
Reach the peak of the holy mountain to enjoy a bird's eye view of the entire Montserrat Monastery and of the natural park. On clear days, you will enjoy uninterrupted views of the whole of Catalunya.

Xavi was our guide on a 10-hour tour (!) with a 7yo where we didn't speak Catalan, and we were prepared for this to be a hot mess. It better than we could have imagined. Xavi knows so much about history and about Montserrat, we wouldn't have known what the hell was going on there without him. He knew the tour guides everywhere we went, and made our entries into the Cardona salt cave and the castle seamless. He was flexible with our scheduling, and even had treats in the car, which made our kid very happy. Highly recommend Xavi for a tour. He could (and nearly did) talk for the entire 10 hours about all these amazing places. The 7yo: "He was a good tour guide. He gave us a lottery ticket but we didn't win."
Rodrigo is the best guide we have had during our visit to the city of Barcelona.
Beautiful day with an amazing guide. Ramon our guide, made this such a great experience.
Monserrat and Cardona are definitely worth a visit. Without a car, it was difficult to go around both in a day, so we took the tour. They were perfectly able to assist us with everything from transportation to the hotel, parking on site, arranging tickets, and providing detailed commentary on each location. Our guide Ramon was very kind and warm to our children, even those who didn't understand English, and the whole family was able to enjoy it with peace of mind.
Montserrat and Cardona are must-visit places but hard to do without a car. This tour took care of everything—transfers, parking, tickets, and great guiding. It was worth every penny! Our guide, Ramon, had amazing historical knowledge, and he was so sweet to our children even though they don't understand English.
Ramon turned a great itinerary into an unforgettable experience. Visiting Montserrat, Cardona’s stunning castle, and the unique Salt Mountain is already a visual feast, but Ramon’s commentary took it to the next level. He provided a brilliant mix of deep historical context and entertaining legends/myths that kept us engaged the entire day. His friendly demeanor made it easy to ask questions, and he never made us feel rushed. We especially appreciated his personal suggestions for exploring the local spots—they were spot on! Highly recommended for anyone wanting to truly understand Catalonia’s rich history.
Excellent day trip to two very interesting locations that are emblematic of the historical and cultural richness of Catalonia. Ramon picked us up at the hotel and accompanied us, giving us rich information about the places; professional, but lighthearted and friendly. Montserrat is an unmissable destination for understanding Catalonia and Spain's relationship with the Catholic religion and its institutions over the centuries. Plus, it is a stunning place scenically and full of charm. Cardona, with its salt mines, exploited for 6500 years, by the Iberian populations and then by the Romans and for all the following centuries, under the feudal rule of a family of dukes who became very rich and powerful thanks to the salt. The guide Alex, moreover, is an added value, for his ability to contextualize from a social, cultural, and historical point of view the unsustainable and dangerous work of the miners, all immigrants from Andalusia, Murcia, and Extremadura, the historically poorest regions, stigmatized for decades as outsiders in Catalonia. The castle is beautiful, with a Romanesque church that has not been altered, and therefore very representative of this architectural style.
Excellent tour of the castle, the salt mines, and Montserrat, incredible, kind, and friendly service from Xavi, our guide, who made the experience even more pleasant.
Very fun and very educational.. Xavi was very kind and attentive to everything
Xavi showed us the absolute BEST time showing us all the parts of Barcelona that we wanted to see. He was patient, kind, and so knowledgeable! It was all thanks to him that our trip was so great :)
