Mola Mola Day with Beach Braai Lunch

An incredible experience and an absolute must in Namibia Our day with Mola Mola Safaris was one of the most fun and spectacular experiences of our trip. We started with the boat tour from Walvis Bay towards Pelican Point. There was incredibly thick fog, but rather than spoiling the experience, it made everything feel almost surreal – as if we had suddenly found ourselves inside The Mists of Avalon. And out of the mist came seals, dolphins and even a whale. Amazing! Then came lunch, and this was certainly not the usual quick meal you might expect on an excursion: oysters, fillet and prawns, all carefully prepared and beautifully served. And then… Sandwich Harbour. WOW! It is difficult to put into words what it feels like to see those enormous dunes reaching all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. Sand and ocean meeting to create absolutely breathtaking scenery. In our Land Rover Defender, we drove up and down the dunes, tackling slopes that looked almost impossible from the top. Steep climbs, thrilling descents, dune ridges and then, suddenly, the ocean appearing in front of us. Adrenaline, fun and unbelievable views. A very special thank you to Andrea, our driver and guide, who was friendly, funny, kind and incredibly attentive. Every time I had to get in or out of the Defender, he brought out a small step stool to help me. It may sound like a small detail, but I really appreciated it, and it says a lot about the level of care they give their guests. The organisation by Mola Mola was flawless from beginning to end. Yes, Mola Mola costs a little more than some other operators, but after experiencing the tour ourselves, we can say without hesitation that it is worth every cent. The quality of the organisation, the vehicles, the food, the guides and, above all, the attention given to their guests really make the difference. If we had to recommend who to choose for the Sandwich Harbour experience, we would have no hesitation: Mola Mola. Spectacular, exhilarating and absolutely worth doing.

We did a full day tour with Mola Mola Tours from our cruise ship. When we boarded the boat in the morning we were taken aback and delighted to find a seal sitting there in the middle of the seating area!! Once everyone had taken photos, we embarked on a three hour boat ride to Pelican Point sand bank to visit the Cape Fur Seal colony there – the third biggest in Namibia – with a population of around 60,000 seals. It was a delight to see so many playful babies scampering and playing in the surf and heartwarming to find a colony of any type of animal not suffering from habitat loss, poaching, pollution or decline. On the contrary, Cape Fur seals have no predators in Namibia and their numbers are actually in danger of becoming problematic. Upon returning to land, we jumped in a very battered old Land Rover for an extremely bumpy 60 km journey through roads carved entirely out of the thick ever-moving sands to Sandwich Harbour, an extensive desert coastal region located south of Walvis Bay, where the ocean meets the hundreds of metres high sand dunes with just a narrow strip of beach (which also seems to serve as the coastal highway) in between. After a picnic on the beach, we took to the mountainous sand dunes for a fairly hair raising 4×4 safari, roaring up one dune before pitching over the top into a precipitous slide down the other side! Within a very short time it felt a bit like being stuck in a washing machine spin cycle and most of us ‘mature’ travellers were probably secretly relieved when the time came to head back to the ship! Our guides Mandela and Andreas were unbelievably fun, personable, caring, and passionate about their roles and we felt entirely safe and looked after from start to finish. We were very tired when we got back to the ship at 4:45 for a well-deserved rest and a glass of wine! The whole trip was a delight from start to finish and was one of the highlights of our world cruise.

My experience with Mola Mola was amazing, Livorno, Danny, Renee and Holger were phenomenal guides. Their patience with pictures, snacks set ups were just amazing. Their expertise of the area and region adds to the value! I recommend the beach braii, it’s a very church experience. High quality chairs the food is great quality and their service is truly luxury!

Perfect! Boat cruise not too big, approx 10 people, without music (very appreciable), with sea lions, pelicans and dolphins galore in the very quiet and beautiful environment of Walvis Bay. Excellent barbecue lunch on the beach in the shade with salads and very tender beef, fruits and brownies.. then drive to Sandwich Harbor in an SUV. All this very well organized and with a pleasant timing. Each activity lasts as long as necessary to enjoy it without unnecessary waiting. Team at the top, at sea and on the ground.

We made the combo boat / kayak / lunch and sandwich Harbor in 4*4. Admittedly a long day but rich in activities, emotions and discoveries! The morning boat ride to see the only ones was nice. Kayaking between the sea lions too, be careful the smell is very strong you have to hang on but walking in the middle of the orcas was a super nice experience. Lunch top!!!! With quality food, a nice Mood where you can chat and enjoy the moment. Favorite for the afternoon in 4*4 in Sandwich Harbor: beyond the place that is just sublime!!!! The guide was of great quality, took the time to take us to the nook and heights of the dunes which are just splendid alternating desert and ocean views, and the end of the day aperitif in the beautiful desert. We came home from our day very tired but well moved! Mola Mola’s organisation has been perfect in every respect. Thank you very much for everything we had an unforgettable time that we will remember for a long time to come.

The whole family (parents + 2 adult children) was on Mola Mola's day trip. Four different groups of staff were responsible for the different parts of the tour (sailing, kayaking, lunch on the beach and dunes in 4x4) and all provided excellent service with a focus on giving us a good experience. There were all the details and nothing left to chance. Highly recommended.

Here's a busy day amidst beautiful scenery In the morning, a catamaran ride in the bay to see the sea lions and whales. 2 guests visit you on the boat, a sea lion and a pink pelican! A friendly crew always taking care of you The boats are not overloaded, about ten people on board Stop Bbq on the beach, excellent! Lobsters galore! Then 4x4 departure to the sandwich harbour dunes, an extraordinary experience in unique landscapes on earth Special mention to Andreas our exceptional driver of kindness and very competent If you come to Walvis Bay or Swakopmund, it is a serious mistake not to go on this tour!!

Morning cruise with a group of charming retirees. Grey weather but with the chance to see whales in fishing action. Effet whaou garanti. Then lunch on the beach washed down with very good sudaff sparkling wine. Little lobsters a hair overcooked but good anyway. Beef of extreme tenderness. In the afternoon 4×4 in the dunes of Sandwich Harbor pure beauty. The staff on this day is very friendly and caring
