About the Red Church at Cap Malheureux One of the most renowned churches in Mauritius is the Notre Dame Auxiliatrice Chapel, a Roman Catholic Church famous for its vivid red roof against the bright turquoise sea and azure sky. Located ten minutes from Grand Bay is the small fishing village of Cap Malheureux. It translates to “Unfortunate/Unhappy Cape”, due to the numerous ships, which floundered there in the past. The Notre Dame Auxiliatrice Church is famous for its lovely red roof, which attracts many curious passers-by and offers a picturesque background for worthy snapshots. This simple chapel was founded in 1938 and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It is situated ideally at the very northern point of Mauritius, offering breathtaking views of the five northern islets, including Coin de Mire (Gunner’s Quoin). This Roman Catholic Church draws in a lot of visitors as well as worshippers. On Sunday mornings, many tourists can be found joining the mass. The church, as well as the beach behind the church is a popular spot for newlyweds to have their pictures taken- so it is not uncommon to run into couples here. The beach behind allows you to soak up the sun and enjoy the view, while the kids can play in the white sand and discover aquatic life in the rock pools. Fishermen are also frequently docking, with a fresh catch.

For this day of sightseeing, we were accompanied by Kavish, who helped us discover the different places included in this excursion. His knowledge of the island was a major asset for learning more about life in Mauritius and about the different places seen/visited, and his friendliness made this day even more pleasant. We thank him again! The route allows you to discover the points of interest in the north of the island, such as Fort Adelaide and its magnificent view of Port Louis, the botanical garden and its impressive diversity of plants, the church of Cap Malheureux, L'Aventure du Sucre, which allows you to better understand the history of the island, and the Port Louis market to bring back some souvenirs to France. At each of these places, Kavish knew how to accompany and advise us when necessary, but also let us enjoy ourselves as a couple, a perfect balance!
I would recommend this tour - it was very thorough and interesting, covering the highlights of the north of the island: Port Louis, the Citadelle (from which you get unique views of the city), the tea factory, the best beaches of Grand Baie, the unique red-roofed church at Cap Malheureyx, the sugar museum and factory (allow plenty of time for this - it also covers some of the fascinating history of the island, as well as sugar making and testing/ rum tasting), and the very impressive Botanical gardens. My guide, Nasser, was absolutely excellent: very knowledgeable about the island, patient and assiduous in ensuring that I saw what I was interested and was comfortable.
This was a brilliant day out. Paul was an amazing guide and very safe driver. He gave us lots of interesting information on the history of Mauritius. Showed us the local makers in Port Louis as well as the tourist areas. The fort was also great. Next stop was the sugar factory and rum tasting which was also very interesting and the rum good. Unfortunately it rained while we were at the botanical gardens but it was still very interesting and we saw the giant tortoise. This was a brilliant day out. Thank you Paul.
I had a wonderful North Tour in Mauritius with Deva, and I am extremely happy with the whole experience. From the beginning, he was very professional, punctual, friendly, and easy to communicate with. He made me feel comfortable straight away and took very good care of me during the entire day. The tour was very well organized, but also flexible, which I really appreciated. Deva showed me beautiful places in the north of Mauritius, gave me time to enjoy each stop, and never made me feel rushed. He also shared useful local information and made the experience feel more personal, not just like a normal transfer or basic tour. His driving was safe and smooth, the vehicle was comfortable, and he was always attentive to what I needed. What I liked the most is that he genuinely wanted me to enjoy Mauritius and have a memorable day. He was patient, helpful, respectful, and always smiling. I can honestly say that Deva is not only a good driver, but also a very reliable and professional person to work with. Any travel company, agency, or customer would be lucky to work with him because he represents Mauritius in a very positive way and gives excellent service from start to finish. Thank you, Deva, for making my North Tour such a beautiful experience. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a trusted, professional, and friendly driver/guide in Mauritius.
Sameer did an outstanding job. His vast knowledge of his country, culture, and history creates a meaningful experience.
Excellent tour with our wonderful guide, Dinesh. He was knowledgeable and entertaining, and showed us how lovely and interesting Mauritius is. We learned a lot about the history and the people of Mauritius. We will certainly recommend him as a guide to any of our friends who might be contemplating a trip to Mauritius.
Once again, I unfortunately booked a guided tour of Port Louis, we have a very friendly taxi driver, but by no means, a guide. apart from visiting the citadel and the market downtown. Very poor visit, total disappointment. I will no longer book by your services, in view of the amounts paid, unjustified.
Unlimited recommended tour of the beautiful north. Our driver Rakesh was friendly and helpful, but too reserved for our taste with his explanations. Since we had the southern tour with the same company before, we know that there are also drivers there who are also great guides and happy to be able to inform about the history, culture and cuisine of their country. Despite small limitation this time, still a great experience with unbeatable value for money! Absolutely serious, punctual and reliable.
First class trip with Jean who took great care of us. He showed all the sights with excellent advice on taking a guide at the Botanical Gardens and where to have lunch
We had a very nice day. Were only in Port Louis at the port with shops. Then we visited the market hall and the fortress. Where we had a great view over the city. Afterwards we went to the sugar factory with tasting. At our request, our driver drove us to the supermarket... because the same one was much cheaper than in the sugar factory. The botanical garden was unfortunately closed that day. We were very happy with our driver. He told us a lot about the country, responded to our wishes. And we felt safe on the car ride. Can highly recommend. We had a very
