Marseille Tour
Meeting point
We meet right in front of the Cathedral La Major's entry gate. There is big lamppost facing straight at the entry gate. I will be there, wearing a white cap.
Description
“The best way to know a city is to walk it.” Simone de Beauvoir, renowned French writer, was right.
And it is especially true for Marseille.
Marseille is unique, a city with 100 personnalities, an oxymoron where calm and noise live together in a chaotic harmony.
The oldest city in France, 2600 years old, still has a young beating heart, and the best way to feel it is to simply walk on it.
On this tour of 8 people maximum, you'll experience and discover, with a local, passionate and bilingual guide, what makes Marseille, Marseille.
We will wander through the small and only walkable streets of Le Panier, learn about Marseille's rich history one monument after the other. We will climb to Notre Dame de la Garde, overlooking the panoramic view of the city, see hidden gems that can be only seen on foot, lose ourselves in Le Roucas Blanc, and go back in time visiting the little fishing port of Le Vallon des Auffes.
And so, so much more.
Join us exploring this southern treasure.

Charles is an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable about Marseille history and very engaging with the tour participants. The tour includes a variety of neighborhoods for an overview of the city. It’s a full four hours…no time wasted in cafes and gift shops.

A great tour to see all the important places that make up the diverse city of Marseille. Our tour guide was knowledgeable about all areas of Marseille and you could tell he loved his city. He met us very close to our cruise port. We enjoyed this small group tour.

Caroline is an AMAZING guide. Skipped 2 places.
Caroline is an amazing guide. Although English is not her first language, she has great English. You can tell that she's really passionate about her city and its history. She explained that the history of Marseille, with the support of pictures, anecdotes and funny personal stories during our walk. The day of our walking tour, it was quite hot, so we took the public transit up to the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de la Garde.
Our group had 5 people and Caroline was considerate of everyone's physical abilities and gave the group time to take pictures. The reason why I gave the tour a 4 and not a 5 stars is because, contrary to what was described in the itinerary, we did not go to Vallon des Auffres and Palais Pharo.

The many facets of marvellous Marseille
Our walking tour with Caroline was outstanding. It was comprehensive and at exactly the right pace. In her very engaging manner, she revealed so much about the city, its history and its people that I very soon realized I hadn’t allotted nearly enough time to this amazing city. I’ve resolved to return for at least a week to do it justice.

Carolina is a great guide. She is growing up locally and she has a vast knowledge of Marseille. She was patiently introducing us to hidden spots we couldn’t have found by ourselves.

A Historical Encounter
There were only two of us on this tour with Caroline. I really enjoyed it as she focused on history rather than food. I loved her stories and the use of her pictures. She was great and very considerate, waiting for me to take pictures.

A fabulous introduction to Marseille.
Our experience with Caroline as our guide was absolutely wonderful. With excellent English, a great sense of humor, and an incredible knowledge of Marseille as a city as as well as of the people who inhabit it, she showed us all the high points of the city and gave us incredible insight regarding what makes this such a unique and special place. I was not expecting Marseille to be as interesting or diverse, and I was not anticipating such a detailed and in-depth presentation. It was truly wonderful, and I now look forward to the opportunity to return to Marseille again.
