Jemaa el-Fna square is the city’s top attraction, it is one of the main cultural spaces in Marrakesh and has become one of the symbols of the city since its foundation in the eleventh century. It represents a unique concentration of popular Moroccan cultural traditions performed through musical, religious and artistic expressions. All through the day, and well into the night, a variety of services are offered, such as dental care, traditional medicine, fortune-telling, preaching, and henna tattooing; water-carrying, fruit and traditional food. In addition, one can enjoy many performances by storytellers, poets, Berber musicians (Imazighen), Gnaoua dancers players.
Koutoubia Mosque is One of the most impressive monuments in Marrakech and one of the most beautiful mosques in Morocco. Marked by a complex history; it is actually a double sanctuary with a minaret. The first Koutoubia was inaugurated in 1157 and the second and the minaret were built a year later by order of Abdelmoumen. The two sanctuaries are distinguished by their innovative plan giving you a capital importance to the wall of the qibla (orientation of the prayer). Marking the landscape of its presence, the minaret erected in stone, with a height of 77 m, allows the use of a ramp to reach its summit. Bahia Palace is a 19th century building, consisting of rooms decorated with stunning stuccos, paintings and mosaics palace and a set of gardens. The Bahia Palace was intended to be the greatest palace of its time. The name of the Bahia Palace means in Arabic “brilliance”. As in other buildings of the period in other countries, it was intended to capture the essence of the Islamic and Moroccan style. There is a 2-acre (8,000 m²) garden with rooms opening onto courtyards in the Bahia Palace. The Bahia Palace was Set up at the end of the 19th century by Si Moussa, grand vizir of the sultan, for his personal use, the Bahia palace would bear the name of one of his wives. Here, the harem, which includes a vast court decorated with a central basin and surrounded by rooms intended for the concubines. As the black slave Abu Ahmed rose to power and wealth towards the end of the 19th century, he had the Bahia palace built by bringing in craftsmen from Fez. Admission is: 100MAD for each (10 Euro)
The Ben Youssef Madrasa is one of the largest and most beautiful icons of Andalusian-berber architecture in Morocco. Founded by Sultan Abou al Hasan in the fourteenth century, it was subsequently rebuilt and enriched by the Saadi dynasty. The result is the even more extravagantly decorated monument that stands next to the Ben Youssef Mosque in Marrakesh. Now a museum, the former madrasa has 130 cells built to accommodate the almost 900 students who studied the Quran and other science and religious subjects here. This is a place well worth visiting if you would like to understand Arab culture and the Islamic religion.

This was a great tour. We saw all of major sites and souks in the Medina. Our guide was wonderful and very knowledgeable. He even got us into a rooftop restaurant that we couldn’t get in. I would definitely recommend this tour to everybody.

Ahmed was well versed with the history of Morocco. We liked that he gave us the option of the places we wanted to visit and we were able to skip the queue as he was an official tour guide. We learned about the origin of the words and the cultural changes over the past dynasties up until the most recent updates with the architecture and politics. We also got guidance with navigation within the souks by showing us how it used to be categorised. He helped us take photos as we go along our tour and finally lead us to a reasonably priced restaurant within the city square.

The tour was educational and informative. Tour guide Said is very knowledgeable. He thoroughly guided us through the maze-like alleys and was able to help with shopping for original items vs knock-offs. Clarification is needed on entry fees to the historical sites. While booking app indicated entry tickets were included in the tours, it turns out clients have to pay admission fees in some places. Otherwise, it was good morning tour to set the pace for the rest of the day. Beware of the usual tourist traps where clients are ushered into rest places where it turns into unexpected shopping up sells.
