Marrakech: Traditional Moroccan Hammam & Massage with Pickup

Overall the experience was worth it and I would recommend trying it out if you are visiting. We were picked up from the door of our hotel. Relaxing atmosphere and welcomed with some local tea. Asked to get changed into swimwear or underwear and provided a locker for storing valuables and clothes. Provided with robe and paper disposable shorts that are see through, so wear something underneath. The experience starts with by laying on extremely hot marble, water is splashed over it to cool it and ask for more if it is too hot. I found it too warm at times but the attendant put more water on it to cool it down more for me. This opens up pores for the attendants to apply the scrubs and oils. They splash cold water on you to remove scrubs and oils. Dry off and after this you go upstairs for a full body massage. The massage was awesome and helped remove some stubborn knots from deep muscles. After massage you go back downstairs for another tea before getting changed into your own clothes. Transfer back to door of the hotel.

We had a fabulous time yesterday - it was one of my trip highlights, and we had been travelling for a week around Northern Morocco before coming to Marrakech. It started with the door to door transportation from our hotel. The driver was punctual, friendly and it was a lovely, air conditioned vehicle. When we arrived at the Hammam, the staff were so welcoming. And then it began! I don’t think I have ever been washed so thoroughly in my life! After the head to toe washing, steam and full body exfoliation, we stopped for the best mint tea we have had since arriving in Morocco! Then it was on for part 2, the massage. Morocco has so many steps and staircases, that my body had become very weary. And I had some upper body tension from wearing a backpack for 10 days. My masseuse sorted that all out in 45 minutes - while I was hatching a plan to return with a group of friends for a spa weekend! I emerged feeling 10 years younger! I have had Hammam spas in London and Turkey but this was next level. It was the first time for my 2 friends and they were very impressed. Thank you to all the lovely ladies who were so warm and friendly.

The lobby was really nice when you walk in - the lighting, lanterns, big couches (a bit uncomfortable if you’re shorter though because they’re so deep), and nice displays. The greeting was very mild as our driver walked us in and we were told to sit. After a few minutes (5-10) of people walking around looking at us as though they were surprised to see us (we had an appointment) a woman finally welcomed us to the changing room. We then were told to wait on a couch where more staff were standing around or walking past - no greetings despite us trying to smile. Finally two young women came and got us, told us to sit on the slabs and began splashing water on us out of a small plastic bucket. No warning and no introductions. Through most of the treatment the girls spoke to each other, not us, including twice when we were left alone for several minutes to soak. Had this been our first time it would’ve been very uncomfortable not knowing what was happening. Towards the end my person finally introduced herself and asked where we were from. When I was friendly back and told her, she and the other girl chuckled and kept talking to each other.No more conversing with us. My daughter’s person was a bit friendlier and gentler. Mine actually slightly hit me in the face with the bucket and kept going. She also splashed me in the face once and I slightly choked, then splashed me at the end with lots of cold water despite me jumping at the shock (my daughter said her water was nice and hot or warm the whole time). We were left to awkwardly put our heads on the hard bucket for the last soak. A pillow of some sort would’ve been much more appropriate! We felt like they were just trying to get us done, there was no care involved. Then we were taken wet in a robe to the massage area upstairs. The towel did not fit the table and the other towel did not fit the face area. In other places there is a full cover, sheets and even a towel at times, for both comfort and to be sanitary. I could feel the cracked plastic/leather. Overall the masseuses we each had were very nice and did a great job, but again little to no communication. We were taken back down to change and given water and mint tea by a friendly man and the nice woman who initially took us back. Front desk staff were not that friendly. When I gave a tip, I received a half smile and she didn’t even see the amount. I tipped because mostly the masseuses did their job and were nice. Luckily this was our second Hammam so we had something to compare to. I had high expectations since this place was double the price and we frequently go to spas when we travel all over. Our first Hammam was small, but care was taken at every step - beautiful setting with attention to every detail (nice bowls and containers for everything,, nice spa-like decor, nice slippers and soft robes, a snack with lotions and water/drinks afterwards, fresh robes at the end, beautiful big copper container for the water and bowls for the soaps; she motioned at each step and was kind, kept asking if we were ok, and she was gentle while appropriately rough for the scrubbing. We felt cared for like we were her family!!! And she was so gracious and thankful at the end before we even tipped her). We felt completely pampered and rejuvenated! Suggestions: I would say the staff could use much more training in customer service. I assume there are visitors from all over the world, and kindness is universal. You do not have to speak someone’s language to convey kindness and care. Our first Hammam experience she spoke no English and she was fantastic from start to finish!!! (At Dar Jasmine in Chefchaouen). Aside from 2-4 people that smiled and were kind, the rest acted as if we were intruders, just staring. The facilities outside the lobby could be upgraded. The lobby sets a tone and then it went downhill. The changing room was dark, humid and lockers were high for shorter people. The shoes were mismatched, no belt on the robes, massage tables creaking and leather cracked, carpet worn on the stairs. We should not have to put on a wet robe after the massage, and each step could be explained more by the person conducting the service. Also, either no talking or just talking to the client, not constant talking to your coworkers in a different language. Felt uncomfortable. Also there was loud construction and we could hear children running outside and people talking. Not the best when trying to relax. Maybe better soundproofing could be put up inside, or at least play calming music? The driver was friendly and the drive back and forth were fine. We would not return and hope some updates are made for others. Considering we barely spoke and tried to be friendly I can’t take any credit for being rude or having crazy, tourist requests. Perhaps we had new staff??? But still the facilities……There seems to be potential and I hope they improve. I got multiple messages requesting feedback as a newer business, hope this helps.

The transporter Hamza was very kind and punctual. I did not enjoy the first part of the experience very much, since there was too much waiting time for what they actually offered (a very simple exfoliation), the second part, the massage on the second floor, I liked a lot and it was the best part of the experience. In general, it was good, although I think they could improve the organization and reduce waiting times

My wife and I wanted to try something traditional as part of our honeymoon and both needed a massage. This ended up being such a great and unique experience. The staff was so nice and had five star service. Picked us up from our Riad, we got a great shower and hot tea and the massage was so great I fell right asleep. I felt amazing coming out of it and everyone was very attentive. Highly recommend, hidden part of a traditional taste of Moroccan culture!

An intense, amazing hammam full of sensations. The massage and exfoliation were spectacular, and the showers at the end leave you floating. The girls are lovely, and among friends, we enjoyed ourselves a lot. They exfoliate you completely and then shower you, a total renewal. An experience I would repeat without hesitation.

An amazing experience from start to finish! The Moroccan hammam was very clean, relaxing, and beautifully organized. The staff were extremely friendly, professional, and attentive. The massage was perfect and left me feeling completely refreshed and relaxed. The atmosphere was calm and authentic, and the transfer service was smooth and well arranged.
