Best way to see the Blue Lagoon

We had the best experience on this tour. The boat does leave about 45 minute from the cruise port, but the best part about booking this tour is that they arrange the transportation for you, and both of our transportation drivers were very communicative in order to arrange pick up and drop off. This tour also did operate with just the two of us and did not cancel due to low numbers, unlike some other tours we had arranged on our trip. The experince was the best of our cruise and swimming in the waters of the blue lagoon was a once in a lifetime experience.

Unsafe journey on transfer

Picked up on time by the coach however seatbelts didn't work. Trip to port fine. Blue Lagoon so busy but that is not the fault of the tour operator just a popular spot. The bus journey back was very concerning. The driver spent his time on WhatsApp, Facebook & watching video clips. My daughter recorded this so we have evidence.

This experience was extremely fun and refreshing. The stops we made along the way were picture worthy and weren’t too far. The boat trip is quicker than what it seems.

Not worth the cost

We were picked up on-time from the cruise port and drove us to see Popeyes village. That was fine until the driver dropped us off at the marina and told us our captain would be "down there" and drove off. The captain was late so we stood around for about 15 mins confused. The captain did not point out any of the sites on the itinerary. He took us to the blue grotto for a quick 30min swim. Then took us to the Blue Lagoon for another hour swim. The whole thing felt rushed and not worth the cost.

Operator response

Hi Carol! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re really sorry to hear that the day felt rushed, and we truly appreciate you sharing your experience with us. 😊 Just to clarify a few details for future guests, as we always want the itinerary to be as clear as possible: We allow approximately 1 hour for the drive from the cruise port to Ċirkewwa. On your day, you were actually very lucky with the traffic and arrived earlier than expected. As we had communicated beforehand, the boat was scheduled to depart at 13:30, so arriving early gave you some time at the marina to use the facilities, grab a snack or a drink, and relax before boarding. Your skipper arrived for the planned departure time and you then received the full 2-hour boat portion of the excursion. Please also note that this is a group boat tour, so the exact timing at each swimming stop can vary slightly depending on the group and what everyone would like to do. We always try to give guests enough time to enjoy the beautiful waters of Comino while also making sure we can continue with the planned route. One small clarification as well: Blue Grotto is not part of this particular itinerary. The tour focuses on Comino, the Blue Lagoon and the surrounding beautiful coastline and swimming areas. Thank you again for joining us during your cruise stop in Malta. 💙🚤

Best private sunset cruise

The BEST day of our vacation was our sunset cruise with Mahmoud. He was so personable and knowledgeable of all the sites. He made sure to capture so many precious beautiful moments for us. He even took pictures of us that we will cherish forever. I would highly recommend booking with him! We had an absolute blast!

Wow! The best thing I’ve done in Malta.

Booked last minute via Tripadvisor. Opted for the 3 hour trip. From the first minute to the last minute this company couldn’t do enough for us. The communication was excellent and informative. Our boat captain Michael was lovely, knowledgeable and a credit to this company. Our tour was fantastic and well worth the money paid-which was excellent value. Our party of 8 all had a fabulous time, and the fact that it was just us on the boat made it more personal and special for us all. I would 100% book with these again and I would recommend booking with them to all who read this. Book a private boat tour with these operators and you’ll not regret it. You have time to look round and swim unlike the boats with lots of people on.

Disappointing and Unsafe

We were extremely disappointed with this excursion and would not recommend it. The day started with being crammed into an overcrowded van for more than an hour just to reach the boat. Once we arrived, we were packed into a very small boat that immediately raised concerns about safety. Throughout much of the trip, waves were splashing into the boat, and it felt like we were constantly taking on water. While the captain was friendly and did his best, the overall experience on the boat felt unsafe and uncomfortable. The itinerary itself was also disappointing. We spent roughly 20 minutes swimming at each of two lagoons, but the majority of the excursion was spent in transportation. After the boat ride, we were packed back into the same crowded van for another hour-long drive back to the dock. To make matters worse, we had to pay an additional €29 per person at the end of the boat trip. Our family of four had already paid about $360 for this excursion, so the extra charge felt excessive and should have been made much clearer upfront. Overall, this felt like a complete waste of money. We spent far more time being transported in crowded conditions than actually enjoying Malta’s beautiful coastline. Several other people on the boat expressed the same frustration. We essentially paid hundreds of dollars for long van rides, an overcrowded and questionable boat ride, and less than an hour of swimming. There are much better ways to experience Malta than this excursion.

Operator response

Hi Brian, this is Janet. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're genuinely sorry to hear that the excursion did not meet your expectations. I would like to clarify a few points. This excursion is designed specifically for cruise ship guests and includes return transport from the cruise port, the drive to Ċirkewwa, a 2-hour boat tour to Comino, including the Blue Lagoon, Crystal Lagoon and sea caves, followed by transport back to the cruise terminal. The journey time is therefore an integral part of the excursion and is clearly outlined in the tour description. Regarding the €29 fee, this is is stated in the booking information before confirmation. Safety is our highest priority. Your boat was licensed for 20 guests and captain, making it all good for the party of 18 joining. While sea conditions can sometimes result in spray entering the boat, this is normal on open-water excursions and does not mean the vessel is unsafe. We were particularly surprised by your request for a full refund after the tour had been completed. When you returned to Ċirkewwa, you told our team that you had enjoyed the boat trip, and your concerns only arose after your refund request was declined. While we fully respect your right to share your opinion, we do not feel that requesting a full refund for an excursion that was operated in full, and then leaving such a review after the request was refused, is a fair reflection of the experience. We always welcome genuine feedback and continuously look for ways to improve. We wish you and your family all the best and thank you for visiting Malta.

Good Excursion but Unsafe Vehicle

Very good tour, but the only complaint, which is a big issue, is that they should provide you with safe transportation. The seats in the back did not lock into place, so when the driver braked hard on one instance, the chairs moved and some of my family members were thrown from there seat onto other people, even with seatbelts, the chairs moved right on to the other people that were on the tour. This is very dangerous and this van should not have been used for our tour. We asked for a new van or to fix the seats, but the request was basically ignored. The driver was a nice guy and did give us some good information. Nothing against the driver, but the tour company should definitely be reviewed for safety by Viator. The highlight was the blue lagoon and crystal cove where you go swimming in some of the most beautiful water you'll ever see. Ginger, who was the boat captain, was so awesome and entertaining. If you ever take a tour, try and request Ginger, he's the best!

Operator response

Hi Rick, this is Janet. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're very pleased to hear that you enjoyed the tour and that swimming at the Blue Lagoon and Crystal Lagoon was a highlight of your day. We'll also make sure Skipper Ginger receives your lovely comments—he'll be delighted to know he made your experience so enjoyable! The safety of our guests is always our highest priority, and we take feedback like this very seriously. I will speak with the transport provider as we never want any guest to feel unsafe or uncomfortable. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, thank you for your feedback.
