The number of murals in downtown Tucson has grown exponentially in recent years supported by City of Tucson funding and public interest. Take a tour from Dorothy Yanez, a Presidio Museum tour guide, who literally wrote the book on Tucson's downtown murals. She'll show you murals you may never find on your own and share with you the stories behind the murals.

Joe Pagac's mural highlights different aspects of the YMCA's offerings, including basketball, swimming, and horseback riding.
Transit Building Mural
Artist Jessica Gonzales explained that people line up outside the Transit building in the mornings to get their bus passes. The City of Tucson wanted to add something interesting to the corner for people to look at while they were standing in line. The main theme of the murals is both self-exploration and physical exploration.
Rock the Spot Murals
Rock the Spot is a yearly event that showcases graffiti art. New mural are painted each year by renowned and up-and-coming graffiti artists to help them share their voices.
Attendees on the tour will learn about the artists, mural histories, and the artists' inspirations behind the pieces.

Fantastic Street Art
This tour is a great way to discover downtown Tucson street art treasures one might otherwise not see. Our tour guide, Dorothy, was very knowledgeable. She shared a lot of information about the artists, including personal details, the way they worked, the challenges they encountered, and more. She gave us in-depth information about the art itself, and encouraged us to touch each wall to discover the different surfaces they had to work with. Very interesting!

Prickly pear cacti hide way more than just pain and water!
Far more educational than we expected! Our docent was Cindy, and she was quite knowledgeable. We won’t spoil it, you’ll learn why Tucson was named as it is. You’ll also learn about why the placement of the presidio was critical to its success.

Mainly Murals in Downtown Tucson
We were so impressed with the information about the downtown murals, artists, and insight Dorothy provided us. She uses a microphone so every one can hear her. So informative. Also, the easy walking made the whole tour so enjoyable.

Enhanced Tour Experience
My group of 10 friends LOVED the Mainly Mural Walking Tour and our guide DOROTHY YANEZ. There is nothing like a guide who can lead to the mural and enhance the experience with interesting information. Dorothy is SO knowledgeable and personable. She knows many of the muralists and knows the backstories of the work. I HIGHLY recommend taking one of her walking tours.
