Experience to be had, the castle with its various annexed museums is very beautiful, including the puppet museum. The 4D cinema with the history of the castle is also very nice. A must-see!
The entrance is actually free, but to be able to go up the tower to see the view, the ticket costs 19€ including the funicular (17 via the Internet); in the castle, which is entirely or almost entirely rebuilt, there is nothing to see, everything is redone, rebuilt, or prepared in a modern style, a useless expense.
Thank you for your comment. Every visitor experiences the castle in their own way. Information about the castle’s history, attractions, ticket options, and what is included with each ticket is available on our website and before purchase. We therefore encourage visitors to review this information in advance to choose the experience that best matches their interests and expectations. The €19 Castle Ticket with the return funicular ride includes more than just access to the Viewing Tower: it also includes the Virtual Castle 4D film, the Slovenian History Exhibition, the Museum of Puppetry, the spatial projection in the Kazemats, and access to the exhibition spaces featuring temporary exhibitions. Every visitor experiences the castle in their own way. Ljubljana Castle was historically built as a defensive fortress and a strategic stronghold above the city, rather than as a residential palace intended for permanent living. Over the centuries, it has undergone various changes and restorations to preserve the monument and adapt it for public access. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
The experience was excellent: the setting is impressive, the castle's preservation is magnificent, and the views of the city are truly unforgettable. Furthermore, the organization and the staff's attention made the visit even more pleasant. I appreciate the effort dedicated to maintaining this heritage and offering such an enriching experience to visitors.
The Castle is a must-see stop, if not for the visit itself, then for the view it offers of the city, both from the walls and from its highest tower where you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the city (the audio guide says that you have a view of 1/3 of Slovenia). The visit is interesting, but the limited access to the interior rooms does not make it as immersive as other places.
The view from the tower is great. The museum is a mixed bag- sine parts so interesting and other parts over long.
The single worst museum/“castle” experience we’ve ever been to. Nothing of substance or interest. Nothing even related to a castle… do not waste your money

Ljubljana Castle is the Slovenian capital's most famous monument and has been towering over the city on Castle Hill for more than 900 years. The current view is largely the result of renovations from the 15th century, when the castle was fortified as a defense against Ottoman incursions. Over the centuries it served as a fortress, residence of the landlords, prison and military barracks. Today the castle is a lively cultural centre with museums, exhibitions, concerts and restaurants. From the observation tower you have a magnificent panoramic view of Ljubljana, the Ljubljanica river and, in clear weather, the Julian Alps. Thanks to the modern funicular, the castle is easily accessible. When we were there on a sweltering hot day, there was nowhere to drink, shameful right?
Thank you for your comment. Information about the castle, its attractions, events, facilities, and available services is presented on our website, allowing visitors to plan their visit according to their interests and expectations. Regarding refreshments, visitors can purchase drinks at the castle’s café and restaurants during their opening hours. In addition, two public drinking fountains providing free drinking water are available on the castle grounds and are promoted on our website, especially as a useful option during warmer days. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
Attention: admission to the castle is free, but this information is not indicated anywhere. In this way, it is easy to think that the 15€ ticket is mandatory. In reality, the ticket only gives access to the tower (with a view that is anything but exceptional) and to a room where a video is simply projected onto a wall. The rest of the castle can be visited for free. The icing on the cake? Even after paying 15€, to use the restroom you have to shell out another euro. Truly a lack of transparency in management and an absolutely unjustified price for what is offered.
Thank you for your comment. Information about free access to the castle grounds, ticket options, and the attractions included with each ticket is available on our website and at the point of purchase. We therefore encourage visitors to review this information in advance and choose the option that best matches their interests and expectations. Regarding the restroom facilities, while one of the restrooms has a €1 usage fee, this amount can be redeemed as a voucher in the Friderik Castle Shop. In addition, there are two other restrooms available free of charge within the castle complex. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
The castle is nice, looks like it was built last year. The funicular was great, well organised. The map was abysmal, could not navigate any part of it. The audio guide was okay, not worth €4. You do not need to pay entrance to the castle, a lot of the areas you can visit for free. You have to pay €1 for entry to the toilet which I think is disgraceful having paid €23 for entrance (your ticket really should allow you to access the toilet). There is a free toilet in the puppet show museum. The 4D virtual castle film was excellent and informed you about the history of the castle which you would NOT know having walked around it. Most of the location is taken up by the coffee shop and restaurant.

A big tourist staircase. We paid €36 for it with the five of us, but really didn't think it was worth it. I admit the view was beautiful, but that's about it.
Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that your visit to Ljubljana Castle did not meet your expectations, although we are pleased that you enjoyed the view. The prices of all tickets, as well as the experiences and attractions included with each ticket, are clearly presented before purchase, both on our website and at the ticket office. We believe this allows visitors to choose the option that best suits their interests and expectations. In addition to its panoramic views, Ljubljana Castle offers a rich cultural and historical heritage, museum exhibitions, permanent attractions, and a wide range of events throughout the year. Of course, every visitor experiences the Castle differently. What each person takes away from their visit also depends on which attractions they choose to explore and what they expect from their visit.
