Interesting and well arranged

The township tour was very interesting and well arranged. Our guide Loyiso could tell a lot and knew a lot about Langa. We drove into Langa ourselves with our rental car and that went fine. Loyiso was already waiting for us on arrival. We felt completely safe under his guidance. The tour is definitely recommended! Good to see this side of Cape Town and South Africa too.

Community spirit

If your are visiting Cape Town I strongly recommend visiting Langa Township for a guided tour. A big thank you to my local guide LUVUYO for an educational yet emotional tour. Walking the streets and getting a real feel of the community spirt. I felt safe and welcomed throughout.

Book with Buntu.

I had a fantastic tour of Langa with Buntu and would highly recommend it. From the beginning, he was incredibly responsive, accommodating, friendly and professional. He was so easy to talk to, completely open to questions, and very patient throughout the tour. One of the highlights for me was seeing all of the fabulous art around Langa and hearing the stories behind it. Buntu gave so much context to what we were seeing, which made the tour far more interesting than simply walking around and looking at the area. I really enjoyed learning about the community itself and, in particular, hearing about the many people and organisations within Langa who are working to support others and do positive things for their community. The whole tour felt relaxed, genuine and informative. I felt completely safe throughout and never felt rushed at any point. Buntu clearly knows the area extremely well and was able to answer all of my questions while giving me a much better understanding of Langa, its history, its art and the people who live there. Buntu was genuinely lovely company and made the experience both interesting and enjoyable. I came away feeling that I had learned a lot and seen a side of Cape Town that I would never have understood in the same way on my own. I would absolutely recommend doing this tour with him.

Langa tour

Fantastic guide who walked us through the Langa township. We learned alot of history and saw the life outside the tourist areas. Tami was our guide and did his outmost to tell us how life and development has arrived in the township. Recommended!

Thoughtful and informative introduction to Langa

I joined the Langa walking tour with Nela today and found it very worthwhile. He explained the area’s history clearly, including apartheid-era housing and the struggle against apartheid, while also discussing different aspects of present-day life. We visited the cultural centre and heritage museum, walked through several residential areas, and stopped at a local artist and coffee seller. Nela was friendly, patient with questions, and clearly familiar with the neighbourhood. He greeted many people along the route and kept the walk relaxed and well paced. I particularly appreciated that the tour covered history, housing, schools, arts, small businesses, and community projects rather than reducing Langa to a single image. The positive local examples were valuable, but a few hours can provide only a guided introduction to a large and complex community. I would hesitate to describe a township tour as showing the “real Africa,” or to romanticise difficult living conditions as somehow more authentic, joyful, or communal than life elsewhere. The individual initiatives and achievements shown during the tour absolutely deserve recognition, but they do not mean that the wider structural problems have been solved. Public authorities by all means still have a responsibility to improve housing, sanitation, infrastructure, education, safety, and economic opportunity of all these people. Thank you, Nela, for a thoughtful and informative tour that gave me useful context and several things to think about.

Interesting and educational tour of Langa

We were a little anxious booking this tour, we didn’t want to look like we were voyeurs, we had a real interest in the history of the Township. We didn’t need to worry, everyone we met was grateful we had taken the time to visit the area. They were all keen to share their experiences of living in Langa and more importantly highlight how the area is improving. Our guide Loyiso was there ready to greet us and help us park safely as we arrived. He was friendly and knowledgeable and gave us a great 2 hour tour.
