La Plantation tour (discovering Kampot Pepper) + Lunch

Discovery of pepper in all its colors! Presentation (free) and very professional! Visit (free) of the plantation and the environment, which is magnificent! This day was one of our best moments in Kampot... impossible to skip this place that is La Plantation!!! The owners are charming people! And of course, the possibility to buy different pepper packages on-site... there is something for every budget!

Very nice pepper plantation where they also grow other fruits and herbs. We did the one-hour farm tour. Interesting to know how pepper is made, as well as we could taste different products. They also have a beautiful cafe with fantastic views where you can taste a pepper ice cream or just have a drink. We drove there with a tuktuk, nice ride there. Highly recommended!

Very interesting place near Kampot, especially if you want to see something unusual and local. At first glance, the plantation is more like a winery: a large well-kept area, beautiful views, excursions and tastings. But this is where the famous Kampot pepper is grown. Tourists are usually a lot, the place is popular. We were given an hour-long tour of the plantation: they told us about different varieties of peppers, the process of growing, harvesting and processing. In addition to peppers, fruits are also grown here and locals work on the farm. After the tour, we were taken to the tasting room, where we were placed at a long table and given a leaflet identifying all the peppers and condiments that are made here. The tasting was very unusual: the guide talked in detail about each variety, poured pepper or seasoning on a plate, and we tasted and noted what we liked. I didn't think pepper tasting could be that interesting. After that, you can go to the store and buy your favorite varieties right on the spot. There is also a restaurant and cafe on site with beautiful views, so you can stay longer, eat or drink after the tour. Cards are accepted, which is convenient. Overall, the place really liked it. This is not just a farm, but a full-fledged gastronomic experience and a good stopover while driving around the Kampot area.

Interesting little tour around, learning about various types of pepper and tasting some variants. Lunch was nice

La plantation was a very interesting, informative and organized place to visit. We went through the fields with a great guide and learned how pepper is grown. (We did the shorter tour so didnt get to see how it is sorted/processed.) The pepper tasting was fun and there definitely is a difference in tastes. There is discussion in other reviews whether to go here or a smaller place. I think there is value in both depending on what you are looking for and given the various social initiatives La Plantain says they do. There is also a restaurant and various speciality cocktails. We did buy pepper but at a less expensive place in Kampot.

The discovery of the Pepper Plantation in Kompot was an unforgettable moment. The site, Juliette's explanations and lunch marked our visit to Kompot. It is a wonderful project and an experience to recommend without hesitation.

A terrible, colonial-style place with extremely high prices. Choose other local plantations run by Khmer people instead. During the presentation, they spend a lot of time talking about how helpful they are to local children. They pay extra for three teachers — but with their product prices, after just 3–6 customers they have already covered those salaries. They also fund three scholarships for underprivileged children, who later end up working for the French owners. The guide said they offer good salaries and good working conditions. Maybe for the guides — but other employees were riding run-down scooters, and their outdoor “rest area” consisted of hammocks in 37°C heat. They did not look like well-cared-for staff. I’m writing this from the perspective of an employer. The guide also claimed they buy pepper at a fair price from local farmers and then sell it under their own certified brand. We paid $87 for 350 grams of pepper with some additional spices — an obvious rip-off. The receipt showed 0% VAT… so apparently they don’t even pay taxes. At a local market, we bought 500 grams of pepper for $8, and the seller told us it was the same pepper supplied to the “certified plantations.” At the hotel, we wanted to go to a different plantation for easier access to Kep, but we were told this one would be more convenient. On the way, we passed the plantation we had originally chosen twice — so clearly others were closer. It seems the owners of “La Plantation” pay to have tourists directed to them. The only positive aspect is that it’s a well-organized money-making machine with interesting spices. The rest feels like a scam. Avoid this place and support local people instead of French colonial-style business owners.
