Charuka, was an excellent guide. He organised our pick from remote accommodation and snacks. He was very knowledgeable about the area and the plants and many uses. Definitely recommend the Heeloya trek for a nice walk through villages and learning culture and plants and there uses.
If you want a great guide for hiking in the Knuckles, don't hesitate to contact Niro. I went on a two-day trek with him and it was great! He is very interesting; he gave me lots of information about the vegetation and the animals that we were lucky enough to spot. He adapted to my pace and was kind and helpful. We had an incredible trekking experience in the knuckles mountain range with Niroshana, and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. It was raining and the footpaths were quite slippery on that day which made these hikes were incredibly challenging. Niroshana knew every inch of the path perfectly, ensuring we never lost our way. He was attentive to our pacing, checked on our energy levels regularly, and made sure we safely navigated the slippery sections of the trails. Moreover, he shared fascinating insights about the unique mist forest echo systems, pointed out hidden view points, and helped us spot local wildlife along the ridges. Wonderful experience. Everything said in other reviews is right - Niro is a super guy, really enjoyed his company. For me his knowledge of flora and fauna was fascinating, and for example his understanding of herbal medicine brought that knowledge to life. He also worked really hard to get decent shots of eg lizards and butterflies that was so much better than I could ever manage! Enjoy if you get the chance.
Thank you, Niro, for this experience. The hike itself was beautiful and breathtaking. I did the waterfall hike. In Knuckles Forest, you definitely need a guide! The route can be quite ‘dangerous’ at times, but with a guide like Niro, you don't have to worry about anything. Every step of the way, Niro was there to hold my hand and ensure everything went smoothly. He also had leech socks and protective gear! even though the description says it's not included. Niro is a kind and sweet person. He was very patient. He told me when to look up, for example, to see a leaf-nose lizard. The lunch was delicious. His friend, a tuk-tuk driver, also picked me up in Kandy, which was a very pleasant and safe experience. Thanks again, Niro, for the wonderful hike, and I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to explore the beautiful Knuckles Forest.
We did a two day Trekking tour with Niro and it was the absolute best! Although we are two women (24, 32) traveling together we never felt unsafe or uneasy at any point, thanks to Niro. We made a very spontaneous decision the night before and booked the trip at 09:00 pm with pickup the next morning at 07:00 :) Niro was not only very spontaneous as well, but very professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and a careful guide who guided us through the mountains safely. The first hike was the high peak trek, which was challenging and a lot of fun. we stayed at a very nice campsite with cute little cabins with electricity, hot water and really good (and as we wished: vegetarian) food. The next day we hiked the village to wilderness trek and learned a lot about the plants and spices of Sri Lanka. Great guide and great Experience, thank you :) We definitely recommend booking his tours! :)
We had a fabulous day with Niro. He was so knowledgeable and told us so many interesting things about the areas we were hiking through. We had lunch at a beautiful waterfall spot where we could paddle or swim. Niro looked after us very well and took the hike at our pace. He was very vigilant about removing leeches (of which there were many!) and provided leech socks for my husband who had not brought any. Thanks so much for our day, Niro - it was a great adventure.

Had an awesome experience with Niroshan hiking in the knuckle range mountains, he was knowledgeable, professional, and enjoyable to be around. He took us on a beautiful five hour hike through the forest, exploring stunning waterfalls, we even got to swim in one pool, and he was helpful in navigating through leeches and other wildlife. Felt super safe Would highly recommend.
