Description

Kibera is the largest urban slum in Africa and the second largest in the world. The aim of the experience is to enable guests to learn the local community's daily life experiences. The income we generate from the booking helps a local school, Hope and Shine Kibera Centre, which hosts over 40 children. Tour highlights include: 1. Meeting at Greenhouse mall We meet and welcome all our guests at the Greenhouse mall, Ngong road. Here we brief all visitors on tour plan and expectations. 2. Toi market Toi market is the second largest open air market in Nairobi. See the different sections of the market and interact with traders. 3. Crafts Centre See how domestic animal bones are recycled to make jewelry with a mixture of brass. 4. Power women shop Meet women who educate the young girls on HIV/AIDS 5. Home visit. Experience life inside a slum house with a home visit to one of the guide's home. 6. School Experience how the tour makes an impact on education at Hope and Shine

Excellent experience.

Very enlightening. Denish Aoko with Aoko Tours and Collins Wasonga with AGAPE -Hope for Kinera, were GREAT. I saw and experienced so much more than I expected. It was very safe and interesting. Denish and Collins had relationships with many people, so the experience was much deeper than I expected. The work Collins is doing there is very much needed. I met teachers, students, vendors and very much enjoyed the experience. Words and pictures cannot do the experience justice. You must see it, hear it, and feel it!

An experience everyone should have

I can't recommend visiting Kibera enough, even with children. If more folks would do so, and get a glimpse into the lives of others, our planet would be much better off.

This tour was fantastic. ...

This tour was fantastic. We went through many areas even Nairobi friends didn't know existed. I felt safe and my friends said all the kids were so sweet to them

A very enriching experience

Great experience, walking through the streets of one of the many villages in Kibera, you get a better sense of the living conditions of the residents, the welcome is warm, a huge number of smiles and greetings exchanged along the way whether by adults or children. The guide is very friendly and welcoming. If you have a half-day free while visiting Nairobi, I highly recommend this activity, which will make you realize many things...

An Eye-Opening and Meaningful Experience

This was one of the most meaningful experiences of my time in Nairobi. Lucas and Effie were outstanding guides: warm, knowledgeable, and deeply connected to the community. Rather than simply touring Kibera, they provided thoughtful historical and cultural context while introducing us to local organizations, businesses and community members who are creating positive change. What stood out most was the opportunity to see Kibera through the perspective of people who live and work there. The experience challenged stereotypes and highlighted the resilience, creativity and strong sense of community that exist throughout the neighborhood. I left with a much deeper understanding of Kibera and a genuine appreciation for the community and important work being done there. I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Nairobi who wants an authentic, respectful and educational introduction to one of the city's most vibrant communities.

Excellent family walk through Kibera

We were a family of 2 adults and 1 ficr years old child. It has been an excellent tour through the way of living in Kibera. Insightful, with people who open their hearts and souls, together with their beautiful honesty. We highly recommend it. Take some cash to buy beautiful handmade stuff and some treats for the homes you will visit and children you will see. Our son made a lot of friends 😀😃🙂🙃

Book this one!

This was a wonderful three-hour walking tour through Kibera. Along the way, we visited Toi Market, a local school, several community organizations and initiatives, Lucas’s home, and his mother’s home, where he grew up. Lucas was born and raised in Kibera and still lives there today, so the tour felt incredibly personal and informative. Everyone we met was kind and welcoming. Come with an open heart, humility, and respect for the community. This is people’s home, not a spectacle. Be present, listen, and enjoy the experience. We learned so much and are incredibly grateful to Lucas and the team for such a meaningful afternoon. Five stars!

Great afternoon with Elijah in Kibera

We had a great afternoon and would recommend this tour to everyone. Elijah, our guide, is simply great and super accommodating 😊. We felt very comfortable and safe with him and can only say positive things about the local people as well. The people are super friendly and open-minded. It was a great experience 😊.

Raw, real and worthwhile.

A raw, moving and inspiring experience with others' life experience. While here on a luxury Safari, we were grateful to see the real world for many Kenyans. Peter and Elijah were vulnerable and articulate about the challenges and successful of many in Kibera. Thank you!

Great experience

This experience has been eye-opening. The guide was amazing and the tour we took showed us the way the community helps another. We plan on returning to purchase more from the local businesses and donating again to the school.
