Description

"""The tour begins at Khor Virap Monastery – with the most breathtaking views of the Biblical Mt. Ararat. The monastery holds significant religious and historical importance - sight where Saint Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned and Christianity took its start in Armenia. This trip continues to the Wine Region of Armenia. Birds or Areni 1 cave is known for the discovery of evidence of several elaborative burial rituals and agricultural practices. The most exciting things uncovered from this cave are the oldest pair of leather shoes, almost 5500 years old and the winery of about 6100 years of age - oldest known winery in the world. Noravank Monastery is a unique medieval Armenian architectural gem with a two-storied main church. The monastery is surrounded by high cliffs and deep valleys of red and orange volcanic materials. Lastly, a stop at Areni village.

Itinerary

Khor Virap
50 min

The Khor Virap monastery is located about an hour’s drive away from the capital Yerevan, and offers an amazing view of Armenia’s defining symbol – the majestic Ararat. “Khor Virap” translates as “deep dungeon”, and was built of the place of the former royal prison, located on the historical site of Artashat. It was this very prison in which they kept Gregory the Illuminator, the first Armenian Catholicos, for a whole 13 years. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that this place is one of the most sacred spots for Armenians around the world. Likewise, it’s also the closest point to the Mount Ararat from Armenia; very often this spot becomes the number 1 reason to visit our country!

Noravank Monastery
45 min

Noravank is one of the gems of medieval Armenian architecture. The church has a distinctive two-story construction. It features a unique (rare for Armenian architecture) second floor, accessed by a narrow staircase, which symbolizes the connection between the earthly and the divine. Surrounded by tall cliffs and beautiful red rocks, this ancient site offers not just spiritual significance but also breathtaking views. Here you will see the one and only depiction of God the Father in Armenia.

T'rchuneri (Bird) Cave
Admission not included30 min

The tour will take you to the Bird’s Cave. In 2008, archeologists discovered several of the world’s oldest artifacts, including a leather shoe and a winery. It also contains evidence of elaborate burial rituals and agricultural practices.

Admission not included30 min

You will be given a chance to taste and purchase Armenia’s renowned Areni wine at the Ar-Areni winery.

Perfect Day Tour in Armenia with Nektar

I had an amazing day with Nektar as my guide! She’s incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience smooth and memorable. We visited Khor Virap, explored the Birds’ Cave, enjoyed a delicious traditional Armenian lunch, admired the stunning Noravank Monastery, and even had a great wine tasting to finish the tour. Everything was perfectly organized, and Nektar’s passion for her country really shows. Highly recommend her to anyone visiting Armenia

Great day tour!

I went for a day tour with my couple. We found a well organized company and a guide eager to tell us every detail. They gave us a local candy and cold water, and brought us to eat something to a beautiful restaurant with good price. We recommend this company a lot!! :)

Excellent trip to Armenia

I’d like to extend our warmest appreciation to Armine and Vahan for a wonderful trip. It was such an amazing experience. I really commend Armine for her dedication to share the rich culture of Armenia. And to Vahan, for driving us safely during the entire trip. We just got a short stay in Armenia, but definitely, Armine made it very worth it and memorable trip. We enjoyed the breathtaking views going to Noravank. I think of all the monasteries that we’ve visited, Norabank was one of the best, the breathtaking views was just so extra ordinary.

Excellent introduction to Armenia

With Yerani, we went on a tour in June that included a visit to the Hor Virap Monastery, which offers chic views of Ararat, the Bird Cave, the Novarank Monastery, lunch in a very beautiful location and a winery with tasting. We had guide Naira B very professional, insanely interesting storytelling and knows the history of the country to the minutiae. Bus seating 16, with internet, driver Arthur O. is very attentive and drives beautifully. Everything is very compact, informative, well-allocated time, everyone had time to watch and enjoy the beautiful views. It was our first encounter with Armenia and we were delighted. If we go on tours we'll only book here

Great experience!

The tour and the guide were great, we really enjoyed everything. The places we saw were beautiful and full of history. The guide (Ani) knew the difference between facts, and fiction and myths. She always had something interesting to answer for a lot of questions we had and overall was very nice. We were even surprised that not only the car had wifi spot, but that it was working well throughout the trip.
