The tour can include white water paddling over a weir, playing in the rapids if that is of interest. If you prefer to stay dry, that's your choice of course and we do provide over-trousers to keep you pretty dry. If you prefer, one of our guides can paddle the double kayak with you for extra stability to ensure that we maximise your enjoyment and safety. Visual highlights include Kilkenny Castle, The Tholsel, St Francis Abbey, the old home of Smithwick's Brewery and St Canice's Cathedral. Hear about the importance of the Nore to Kilkenny and its milling history for centuries.

We had an incredible time with Roger and his crew on the river Nore! He had everything we needed, such as dry clothes, footwear and a jacket to keep us dry. This was a great way to relax for a couple hours, get out of the ordinary and experience Kilkenny from a much different angle. Would definitely recommend!!!
Thanks for joining us and I look forward to paddling in Nova Scotia soon after your description of the sea!
Excellent and really fun experience!!!! Couldn’t recommended more. Worth every penny, the highlight of our trip !!
Thanks so much Aoife, we love sharing Kilkenny and our piece of the outdoors with guests.
We were looking for something active in Kilkenny, and we're very thankful for finding this kayak tour. I had never been in a kayak before, but fortunately the waters around the Castle are quite calm and Roher was a great guide when it came to navigating the river. They have wet suits and shoes to borrow, plus a place to rinse off after. We highly recommend this option for something to do in between all those restaurant and pub stops!
Thank you Frances, I hope you hear some good music on Saturday evening
So much fun!! If you are looking to do something more outdoorsy and adventurous definitely do this. Roger was amazing. he was kind, patient and fun. We had a great time and learned a little about paddling in very small rapids. Thanks Roger!
Many thanks for recommending us.
Our family of 3 had a wonderful time on the river with our knowledgeable and kind guide, Roger. We saw swans and more, and had a fantastic perspective of the castle straight from the river. We wanted an active excursion and this was a perfect mix of activity and sightseeing. Highly recommend for a family adventure!
It was great to host you three and have such an enjoyable paddle with you Josie.
Absolutely fantastic tour! Highly recommend the private tour for a group of 6. Visiting Kilkenny with my family and it was the kids first time kayaking. Ages 13,12,10 and 9. Guides Stephen and Hugo were very friendly, accommodating and great with the kids. Super fun and lovely views of the city. Kids really enjoyed the weirs and jumping in after the trip. Changing facilities really clean and great hot showers on site. Would recommend to any family or group visiting Kilkenny.
Thank you for choosing our activity and we hope to see you again next summer!
Roger has everything you need! Wetsuits, shoes, towels, a changing room with a bathroom and shower, and a soda after. He was very knowledgeable about all things Kilkenny and Ireland. Be prepared to get your feet wet. There are a few parts where you have to get out of kayak and walk a few steps to relaunch. Roger was SO nice! We had a blast with him and his grandson.
Thanks Alyson and Dave for stopping off in Kilkenny to do our tour. Enjoy the rest of your stay.
The guide is awesome, he took us through the river, going over hills, back-and-forth, must do! Thanks!
We are delighted that you enjoyed our tour and recommend us. Thanks so much for choosing us and enjoy your stay in Ireland.
Great activity in heart of Kilkenny, my first time in a kayak - absolutely would recommend this. It was our second day in Ireland and was nice to have a physical nature-based activity. Our guide Roger was excellent and had great tips on the whole country for us!
Thank you Carrie, great you came via kilkenny to paddle with us. I hope you get some sea swims in Cork and Kerry! Enjoy France and NewZealand next year!
Best way to see Kilkenny! Great for all levels of experience and not a difficult route. Roger set us up with clothes and shoes that we could get wet and swim in. Ed and Dohe were so kind and enthusiastic about taking us out on the water. Ed knew so much about the town and history in general and was able to answer any question we threw at him. We were able to go for a little swim in the lake before we circled back which was lovely. Seeing the bridges and landmarks like the castle from the water was beautiful. When we finished Ed gave us great recommendations for places to eat in town and must sees. A great group of people who were very welcoming and warm. Would absolutely come back!
Thank you Zoe, we look forward to having you back and perhaps do a longer trip down to Bennetsbridge.
