Itinerary
Let us know you have arrived at the reception of the Medieval Mile Museum. Then we start the tour outside.
Endowing an alms house could grant indulgences, easing the journey of the founder’s soul after death, and offering the same grace to those who prayed for him. Sir Richard’s foundation was carefully written into his will, ensuring that prayers for his soul would be said regularly by the residents.
From here, goods arrived from across Ireland and beyond, and ships were loaded for continental markets.
In 1324, Kilkenny became the stage for one of the most infamous trials in medieval Ireland, the case of Alice Kyteler accused of being a Witch.
A courthouse now but once was called Graces Castle. The Grace family were one of Kilkenny’s most prominent Old English merchant dynasties — part of the influential Ten Tribes who dominated the city’s political, economic, and social life from the late medieval period into the 17th century
In the Middle Ages, the city’s walls defined not just its defences, but its identity, marking the boundary between those who belonged to the civic community and those outside it.
This is a non-stop, casual stroll, with guides using this final stretch to share the story of St Marys Cathedral, the Tholsol and the Hole in the Wall.

This is a lovely walking tour giving you a chance to understand the history of Kilkenny. Didn't know that a witch trial occurred hundreds of years before Salem. Loved learning about the buildings on the walk, hundreds of years old. Our guide, Belle, was fabulous, informative and made the time fly by. Had two 11 year old grandsons who also really loved the tour. They are talking about it hours after. Go and enjoy the walk.
Our guide John was terrific. He knew a lot about the history of Kilkenny and he was loads of fun. It’s a really easy walk.
Nice tour and insights into many of the rich history sites and stories of Kilkenny's ancient history.
This was a great way to learn about Kilkenny. Our guide, Joe, was very knowledgeable and gave us so many interesting details. He also made recommendations for where to eat lunch and to explore the the different cathedrals and the Black Abbey. We used all of his recommendations and really enjoyed our time in Kilkenny!
The walk was awesome. Lots of knowledge and great fun. Very accommodating as our flight was late and they were willing to put us the next tour. Joseph was awesome as well as the museum itself
Informative and enjoyable. Start at the museum and see many historical sites. A great introduction to Kilkenny
This tour was narrated by a guide from the Medieval Museum. He was very well informed and was native of Kilkenny. We had a nice walk thru the city learning history at every stop. This tour included a visit to the museum where you can see tombs and other artifacts. The museum is in an old church converted to museum.
