We had a great Time and our Guide Nozomi was a lovely person and spoke an excellent English. She picked us up in our Hotel and explained the day to us. We were going to see some local Crafts and she gave us a choice to either get a glimpse of the Samurai or the Geisha culture. We chose the Samurai District and it was beautiful and very interesting. Experiencing a historical House with all its Rules and Meanings is really, really interesting and so different from europe as you could imagine. She took us around to the sites by Taxi, and after that we were getting confident in using taxis ourselves. At the end she took us to a local Workshop for traditional umbrellas. We were introduced to very wonderful people at the workshop, that were so friendly and open to us, that we almost felt sad to leave after that short time. It was really fascinating how they are made, and how much work goes into them. Unfortunately it is one of the crafts, that are dying due to the younger generation not willing to keep it alive. After digging a little deeper we were shocked to hear the result. Those beautiful Pieces of Art are being sold for roughly 200-300 Euros. Since they take a lot of time to be made, you are really not getting rich by that handcraft.
Thank you so much for this wonderful and thoughtful message! We’re really happy to hear you had such a memorable experience with Nozomi. It’s fantastic to know that her knowledge, excellent English, and thoughtful guidance helped you discover so much about Kanazawa’s history and traditional crafts. We’re glad you enjoyed exploring the Samurai District and learning about the customs and meanings behind a traditional Japanese home. Those details are exactly what make these experiences so special. We’re also very happy to hear that the umbrella workshop was such a highlight. Meeting local artisans and understanding the incredible skill, time, and dedication behind their work can create a much deeper appreciation for these traditions. Nozomi has such a warm way of connecting guests with the people and stories behind Kanazawa’s culture, and we’re very proud of the care she puts into every tour. We’ll absolutely make sure Nozomi sees your kind words. She’ll be so happy to read this! Thank you from Kanazawa Tours.
NicoLa Cinelli was an informative and engaging tour guide. He was fun to be with and let us proceed at our own pace and interests. I wish we had done a full day tour with him instead of just four hours. He followed up the tour by sending us to a really wonderful lunch spot with great curry, and some ideas for what to do with the rest of the day and tomorrow. I recommend him highly.

Excellent tour from Yoshiko-san today. My wife and I had a great time at Kenrokumachi Park in the morning, as well as the traditional fabric dye workshop and the geisha house to finish. Yoshiko-san was very well prepared and knowledgeable about the areas, took a ton of pictures for us, and answered all of our questions. She dropped us off at a great soba-ya in the Higashi Chaya District at the end of the tour. Highly recommend this tour company and Yoshiko-san in particular.
