Itinerary
Begin your journey at Kanazawa’s striking station, featuring the iconic Tsuzumi Gate and Motenashi Dome.
Step back into the Edo period as you ride into one of Japan’s best-preserved geisha districts. Your guide will explain the origins of the chaya (teahouse) culture, the strict social hierarchy of Kanazawa’s merchant class, and how traditional arts like shamisen and tea ceremony thrived behind these latticed wooden facades. Learn why this district still echoes with the elegance of old Japan, and where geisha continue to perform today.
One of Japan’s Three Great Gardens, Kenrokuen offers more than just seasonal beauty—it’s a masterclass in feudal-era landscape design. Stroll through its meticulously planned paths as your guide explains the six traditional garden attributes it embodies (spaciousness, seclusion, artificiality, antiquity, water features, and panoramic views). Hear stories of how lords of the Kaga domain shaped this space not only for pleasure but to reflect their political power and aesthetics.
Cycle around the imposing white walls of Kanazawa Castle, the seat of the powerful Maeda clan for over 280 years. Your guide will share insights into the architecture—from fire-resistant storehouses to maze-like defensive gates—and the strategic importance of the castle in maintaining Kanazawa’s semi-autonomous status during the Tokugawa shogunate.
Tucked behind the castle grounds, this lesser-known gem was once the private garden of the feudal lord. Recently restored using historical records, it provides a quiet, meditative counterpoint to Kenrokuen. Your guide will walk you through the symbolism in its design and the role gardens played in diplomacy and inner-court life.
Ride to the stone-paved lanes lined with earthen walls and discover the lives of Kanazawa’s elite warrior class. As you explore the former samurai streets and canals of Nagamachi, you’ll hear how the samurai adapted to peacetime roles under the Maeda rule, and how their values of loyalty, restraint, and honour still echo in the culture today.

We enjoyed our time on the E bike tour. Our local guide was super friendly and a great guide as we visited the geisha district. The gardens close to the castle and several other historical sites in Kanazawa. We also very much enjoyed our tea ceremony. It was a hot day, so the E bikes made for a way to get some breeze and enjoy the heat. We also really enjoyed driving down the back alleys in the back roads. There was a little traffic and you could see more of the daily life.
It was raining very hard so we couldn’t take the bike and did the tour with taxis. Except for the ninja temple, we didn’t need a guide to visit the other sites. I would have preferred that the activity would be cancelled. The price is too expensive if you don’t get the e bike experience.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry that the tour did not meet your expectations. According to the weather forecast on the day before the tour, only light rain was expected, so we sent an email recommending that guests bring rain gear. However, on the afternoon of the tour, the forecast changed to heavy rain. For safety reasons, our guide decided that riding the e-bikes would not be safe and arranged taxis instead. Looking back, we believe our guide should have taken more time to discuss the available options with you before making this decision. We sincerely apologize for the lack of communication. If you had requested to cancel the tour at the meeting point before the tour began, we would have been happy to provide a full refund. Unfortunately, we did not clearly communicate this option, and we regret that this was not made clear to you. We understand that the e-bike experience was the main reason you booked this tour, and we completely understand your disappointment that it could not be provided due to the severe weather conditions. We sincerely apologize that we were unable to deliver the experience you had expected. Your feedback is very valuable, and we will use it to improve our communication and decision-making in similar situations in the future.
Half day e-bike tour is a great introduction to history, culture and significant areas of Kanazawa including samarui. Geisha districts, the Castle and the Kenroku gardens. Our guide Gorrie provided a very engaging, informative and personal perspective of his city while highlighting important facts and historical details. The tea ceremony at traditional tea house in the castle park was a moment to enjoy the matcha while reflecting on the stunning beauty of the garden. Thank you Gorrie for a wonderful tour. Highly recommend this tour. Caroline and Mark
Guide was great but can’t remember his name. Tour had a great balance of information without getting boring. Good number of visited spots in the time, not rushed but didn’t drag our feet either. On a rainy day it might not be quite as much fun. Hot day but e-bike requires virtually no effort. Doubt we rode much more than 5km. Bikes remain yours till midnight.
Great 4 hour tour with just the two of us. A combination of easy e-biking and walking. Our guide Rina was very friendly with excellent English and extremely knowledgeable about the local area. Really recommend doing it
Amazing tour with a kind and knowledgeable guide (Gori). Really enjoyed the less frenetic vibe in Kanazawa after arriving in Japan and spending a couple of days in Tokyo. This is a very beautiful city and a lovely region of Japan. Using the e-bikes was very easy (provided you know how to ride a bike). Learned a lot about the Samurai and Geisha.
Relaxing tour, very informative, covered a lot of good attractions in a short period of time and receptive to questions. Rina is an all-star with historical information along with current Kanazawa events (and dinner recommendations!). We enjoyed the whole tour especially tea time and in the gardens. We had a sighting of a geisha as well. It was a fun afternoon.
A great tour, very good knowledge of the city. Good pace. Was happy to take us shopping, anything we wanted
The half day e-bike tour with Rina is highly recommended! It is a very fun way to see some of the popular places in Kanazawa. Having a knowledgeable, friendly and engaging guide makes the experience memorable! I would highly recommend this excursiion.
Uri was exceptional as a guide. So personable, kind and helpful. She asked us what we wanted to do in advance and she designed a tour for us which deepened out appreciation of this lovely city. We would highly highly recommend her to guide you and help you appreciate Kanazawa.
