Bad experience

Long wait times, little need for a guide It is better to visit on your own

Operator response

Good value, off season booking

Relatively good value for Money, we went for Hagia Sofia, basilica cistern and topkapi palace, we ended up paying extra for the Harem in the palace. If booking remember pick days and check location to pick up tickets for all bar Hagia Sofia as barcodes are not accepted at door. The additional palace elements were worth doing but may have been cheaper if booked before arrival. Remember Blue Mosque is free so any ticket containing it should not increase your costs.

Not received, after our reminder, we received 10 QR codes with no hours, no fixed day and no address. Missing from the Basilica Cistern. We had a lot of Whatapps exchanges with sometimes long response times, and even no responses. No answers to our calls. With great perseverance on our part, we managed to make 6 visits or activities out of 10. We couldn’t do pub crawl, since we didn’t have the address, we still pushed the door of 2 pub crawls but they were the wrong ones. The address of the Turkish bath that we had difficulty was not the right one. Worse than that, we went to the Turkish bath which is pictured on the Megapass website, but the owner told us he never worked with Megapass. In response, AI Whatapps told us that following a change of ownership of the Basilica Tank, it was permanently closed. We went to the Dsign Café to get the Bus kit, we went twice, lived 3 people, but they didn't give us anything. And to top it all off, the guide for the Asian tour did not show up. We asked for a refund on Whatapps 3 days ago, but no reply. Megapass = mega scam

a great value that works as promised

As of early April 2026, Megapass Istanbul delivers exactly what it promises, and more. One really does get 'skip the line' admission to the named sites. [Actually most sites have an admissions checkpoint and a security checkpoint. The admissions checkpoints clog up with visitors who have not paid in advance, and Megapass either skips these or has guides who expedite them. The security checkpoints are obligatory in any event, but represent only minor delays.] Pass packages differ in inclusion of the Harem in Topkapi Palace; IMHO it is worth paying extra for packages that include this. If your package includes an Istanbulkart (transit card), we found the Megapass representative not inside the DSign cafe as their site indicates but behind the tour stand to the left (south?) of DSign. Megapass will ask you to sign up for specific entry times when you purchase it. Our advice is to sign up for the earliest possible window for Topkapi, as crowds increase throughout the day. Our instructions were to meet at the Chimney Bistro nearby. We showed up 45 minutes in advance to find a long line to check in, but within 5 min of departure time everyone had been processed and there was no waiting. The representative facilitated our passage through the Topkapi checkpoints, after which we were free to wander. Aga Sophia and Blue Mosque are active mosques and close to non-worshipers during prayers. Before booking times, check online for prayer times. In early April 2026, we did Aga Sophia ~11 AM and Blue Mosque after the early afternoon prayer finished. For Basilica Cistern, 'skip the line' entry is via the guided tour line to the right of the door. BOTTOM LINE: a great value that works as promised

To be avoided

They are very unprofessional. We booked a tour at Topkapi palace and it was supposed to start at 11 AM. They accred more than 40 minutes delay just to get it started and gave no explanation at all. They guys at the meeting point were very rude. The person from the support service was less than helpful, too. Finally, our tour included Aghia Irene but we could not visit it as the guide left without giving us the tickets. Again, when asked for an explanation, the support services just disappeared. High price for a poor service.

Review of the MegaPass Istanbul City Explorer Pass - 2.5/5 stars would be more accurate

I chose the MegaPass Istanbul City Explorer pass after reading multiple reviews and blogs recommending it as an efficient and cost-effective way to visit the main attractions for first time visitors. As many others have reported, MegaPass customer service agents are really excellent. They are responsive whether by email or WhatsApp. They are really polite, friendly, helpful and answer every question no matter how trivial. This is great because the website information and ticketing process are not brilliant so you really have no choice but to seek support from customer services! Our experience of the MegaPass guides and representatives on the ground are also nice and helpful. What worked well? I think it is worth getting the city pass if you want to be able to tackle the big attractions without losing time in ticket queues at each location and if you are happy to use audio guides. However, if you prefer guided tours then purchase these as standalone tickets rather than the city pass. Ultimately, all our tickets worked and we got to see the sites and activities included in the pass - Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace (NB harem is NOT included), and a 90-minute Bosphorus Cruise. It was also very helpful to have the 3GB eSIM (not mentioned or advertised on the MegaPass website!) and an Istanbulkart with five free journeys on the Istanbul public transport network. What did not work so well and could be better? 1. Insufficient details on the MegaPass website about what is and is not included in the Explorer pass. For example, I had no idea that each pass includes a 3GB eSIM until a customer service agent mentioned it to me in passing. After receiving confirmation of your purchase, you MUST create all tickets at the same time. In other words, it is not as flexible as described. I thought I could create tickets one at a time depending on my itinerary but you have to choose a specific date for each activity before you can get tickets for anything at all. This caused me a lot of frustration at the time especially as you cannot change dates yourself; guess what, you have to contact customer services to make any changes. It also means that MegaPass will not refund you if you don't end up using your tickets for any reason because they have already been created! 2. Incorrect (or inconsistent) information on the website and from local partners. The FAQ page states that "The Explorer Pass includes everything in the Essential Pass, plus entry to Topkapı Palace & Harem." We were told at the Topkapi Palace that our ticket does not include entry to the Harem (which was confirmed by MegaPass customer services when I queried this during our trip). This is significant because the Harem is a huge part of the palace and costs extra to enter. The local tour operator also told us that our ticket would not be valid for the following day if we didn't enter Topkapi Palace on the chosen date. I was advised to contact MegaPass and ask for the date to be changed to the next day since the tickets hadn't been used. Apparently, the date does not matter and I could use the same tickets on the following day! I also found conflicting information on the hours for collecting your Istanbulkart from DSign Cafe in Sultanahmet square. Luckily, the MegaPass guide was there when we arrived around 9.30 in the morning. 3. Poor system for creating/accessing tickets and audio guides. There is no MegaPass app so everything is accessed via links to a web page. No WiFi or internet access = No access to the web page and your tickets. I downloaded our tickets so I could access them offline just in case. This is fine in principle but some attractions/activities have specific instructions printed at the bottom of each ticket which do not appear on the downloaded versions!! e.g. Topkapi Palace has specific entry times and you must go to a cafe nearby to be hosted into the site by a local tour operator even though the ticket shows as "all day". 4. No access to eSIM installation unless you contact customer services. Even after you create your tickets on the MegaPass website, there is no information about how to install the eSIM (or that it even exists!). Customer services will send you (email or whatsapp) QR codes and manual set up instructions in a PDF for each eSIM. 5. There's no way to download the audio guides so they can be accessed offline. We followed instructions to access audio guides via a web page for each attraction in advance of our visit. However, once you lose access to WiFi or mobile data, the audio guide resets such that you have to download it all over again. This is a major flaw in the system. One of my group did not have eSIM capability and tried using the free WiFi connection at Hagia Sophia to access the audio guide (Hagia Sophia also has its own guide you can download). The connection was so slow (too many users) that it never downloaded so they couldn't use either audio guide. 6. Useful information guide provided is out of date. For example, there is a page about public holidays in Turkey and the dates are from 2020! Summary There are some great benefits to pre-booking attractions using the MegaPass model. Representatives are really great but I feel like I spent far more time than should have been necessary contacting them for help before purchase, during/after purchase and during our trip. This makes the whole point of a digital system less efficient and not at all user-friendly.

Good option to simplify an Istanbul visit

Good communication prior & during booking. Helpful staff who replied to our queries. It was an expensive option that we chose because entry tickets were not available on-line directly for the sites we wished to visit & we wanted to avoid long queues. Vouchers sent to us as well as links to audio guides. Not all instructions were correct ,for example the guide was inside DSign Café when it was specified to wait outside. The audio guides were complicated to understand & did not run when using our handphone cameras . It was either take photos or listen to the audio but not both at the same time. Other than that Megapass saved us a lot of hassle & we are happy with our purchase.

Waste of money and complicated

Don’t waste your money on this pass. It is way too difficult to use or redeem. We spent 2 hours trying to find the “redemption center” because the address leading circles and only after we reached out for support they reached out to Megapass and were told something that was never communicated. That the transportation QR codes don’t work until you go to some redemption place with limited hours! Money lost we ended up using our Visa for the trams. The audio guides were a waste and the able mosque is free you literally in and out in less than 10 minutes. Haggis Sophia is under a lot of construction so it isn’t work going in. Even though we paid thru this pass to get in we forfeited it because of the lines and the construction. If you don’t is in a Friday afternoon beware as the mosques are closed until 2:30 and the cruise ship folks crowd in. Go after 4 and it’s fine.

Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia in the same package

We had a great guided tour of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia in late March. Everything was well organized through MegaPass, and the experience was smooth throughout. Our guide, Cenker, was knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. He shared interesting insights and made the tour enjoyable from start to finish. I really recommend booking a guided tour, you get so much more out of the places when someone tells you historical facts and shows you details younwouldn't recognize on your own. Highly recommended when visiting Istanbul!
