We booked this trip for a family of 4 with 2 teenagers as a good intro to Bangkok and its food. We met our guide, Kwan, in Chinatown at 6pm with rumbling tummies. It was a bonus that our group was a small one with just a Dutch couple, so it was very manageable. The next 3 hours took in LOTS of different foods and vendors, both street food and cafes. The best bit was that the majority were way of the beaten track and involved going down dark alleys that you would have stayed away from as a "sensible" European. The journey proved that fortune favours the (informed) brave, as nearly everything was excellent. After a ko of a dish between 2 of a yellow curry and a green curry (lovely) we arrived at Jok One Table, closely followed in by an elderly man on a Honda moped. Our guide told us this unassuming chap was the famous tv chef, Ken Hom, and was cooking a banquet for an eager family party. This news was somewhat underwhelming for our Dutch friends who hadn't seen Ken in action on daytime tv, but given we had a Ken Hom branded wok at home, was almost up there with the prospect of meeting a hollywood A lister. Kwan bagged us a pic with the Chef, and although it was a bit fishy that the famous tv chef now couldnt speak a word of English, he seemed happy to show us his kitchen and a framed article about Ken Hom on the wall. The dumplings we ate were definitely worthy of a BBC tv show. Other tasty stops were for a feast of satay, soups, a red hot pork curry, and moreish spring rolls. After a walk up another dark alley, Kwan fast tracked us into a cafe selling soups filled with pork / pork crackling. Those not in the know had to queue up for ages. Another winner as the crackling and pork was to die fot. Desert time, and the wait for diced mango, sticky rice and coconut ice cream served on banana leaves really hit the spot. We still just about had room for fried grasshoppers, and the chinese version of churros. The latter yummy; the grasshoppers more of a rite of passage. And then we had to wave goodbye. With full stomachs and happy memories. A google afterwards at our hotel revealed that Ken Hom was a massive fan of Jok and had name checked it in a Hello article in 2014, but isnt actually the resident chef in Bangkok. Who wants to meet your heroes anyway - bet Ken wouldnt have been as excited as Mr Jok was at the news we owned his one of his woks!
Enjoyed all the food on the tour and Peak made it fun and entertaining.
Wonderful little tour in the heart of Chinatown. Nice spots and great history into the establishments. Our guide spoke great English and Thai. Our group was small and is perfect for most of these spots since they're on the street.
Went with this trip, our guide was TK, he was enjoyable to be with, and easy to understand, he was also happy to go "off piste", ( we asked a couple of times to have something different, and he obliged, happily). The food was good, and we saw another side of Bangkok, that we hadn't seen. Overall very happy with the trip,
Best food tour in Thailand. Most of the stops-were featured on Netflix cooking shows! Our guide was amazing and gave all in on our experiences.
Had a fabulous evening, our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, we ate in back street places we would never had found, food was very tasty and plentiful
Peak was an amazing! This tour was so much fun. All the food was so tasty. Definitely recommend this tour!
Our tour guide Kwan was very knowledgeable about the history of the area. I love that we went to areas that were tucked away that I would not normally have seen. More than enough food for this to be dinner. We were stuffed! My favorite dish was the yellow curry.
The tour was amazing! There were so many foods to try, including some Thai classics as well as Thai inspired Chinese cuisine, which was so cool to experience. My friends and I were stuffed after this tour, and there were opportunities to have seconds if you really liked a certain dish. Our guide Kwan was so engaging, knowledgeable, and friendly. She provided a lot of great info about Thai restaurant culture overall and some pointers for the rest of our trip! This tour not only is a great culinary experience, but a great way to get to know Bangkok's super lively chinatown.
Alex was a great guide! Very accommodating to my friend with dietary restrictions. Super funny and nice to be around, very knowledgeable about culture. Could not have asked for a better guide, had a great experience!
