Itinerary
Hai Van Pass
20 min
Hai Van Pass or Sea Clouds Pass offers an impressive landscape of verdant mountains and clear blue skies, overlooking Da Nang City, Tien Sa Port, Son Tra Peninsula, and South China Sea. Crossing over a spur of Truong Son mountain range between Thua Thien-Hue Province and Da Nang City, it stands at 500m above sea level, making it the highest pass in Vietnam. The 25 kilometre-long mountain pass is popular amongst thrill-seeking motorcyclists due to its winding roads, sudden curves and blind corners, while its lookout point offers gorgeous views of Da Nang Bay.
Lap An Lagoon
30 min
Lập An lagoon (also known as An Cư Lagoon) is an 800-hectare brackish water lagoon in Hue and a part of Lăng Cô Bay, Phu Loc District, nestled between Hai Van Pass and Phu Gia Pass. Setting against the backdrop of magnificent Bach Ma mountain range and facing the beautiful Lăng Cô beach, Lập An lagoon is one of the remarkable natural landscapes in Hue, often described by travel lovers a place where mountain meets ocean.
Hue Imperial City (The Citadel)
Admission included120 min
Famously being one of Vietnam’s seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Imperial City of Hue has long been a must-see attraction for tourists visiting a hidden charm of Vietnam. The Imperial City of Hue was actually a walled fortress and palace belonged to the ancient city of Hue which was a capital city of the Nguyen Dynasty for 140 years date back from 1805 until 1945.
Thien Mu Pagoda
45 min
Located beside the picturesque Huong River, Thien Mu Pagoda, with its ancient architecture, adds its charm to this beautiful natural setting. The sound of Thien Mu bell is like the soul of Hue, ever resounding over the Huong River flow winding its way in front of the Citadel to the sea, resonating in the hearts and minds of the people and of visitors to Hue, the ancient capital.
Tomb of Khai Dinh
Admission included45 min
The Nguyen Emperor Khai Dinh's Royal Tomb is unique among the royal tombs in Hue, Vietnam. Where other royal tombs are expansive and invite respectful reflection, Khai Dinh built his final resting place to be monumental in style and bombastic in execution.
Plus, if the local tour guides are to be believed, Khai Dinh's tomb was purposefully designed to be difficult to visit. The tomb was built on the side of a mountain, and its inner sanctum is 127 steps up from street level, a fact that must have grated on the court officials who were required on pain of their lives to pay their respects to the late emperor.
Luckily, transportation to the tombs and a steady stream of tours ensures that visitors to Khai Dinh's tombs no longer have to suffer as those courtiers did. Read on to see how to experience Khai Dinh's final resting place with minimum trouble.

Treat Yourself to an Affordable Private Tour with Hung!
If you’re in Vietnam, you can’t miss a tour of the Imperial Palace in Hue. I took a private tour from Da Nang with Hung as my guide and it was the highlight of my trip.
Hung speaks excellent English and was able to provide cultural history and insights that I never would have experienced without him. He tailored the entire excursion to ensure I experienced everything Hue has to offer.
I can’t recommend this tour company enough. I initially thought a private tour would be beyond my budget, but I was wrong. It was extremely affordable and exploring the area with a local is the only way to experience Da Nang, Hoi An or Hue!

Good trip and knowledgeable guide
Our guide "Eric" was fantastic. He really catered the pace of the trip to our needs. We wanted lots of information about the sites and Vietnam, which he was happy to provide. When we said we needed a pure veg restaurant for lunch, he found the perfect place with delicious food. When we wanted to add a boat ride on the perfume river he was happy to provide ( though we decided against it due to our tiredness). Hue Citadel was beautifully restored. We loved the locals in traditional dress who came for photographs. The driver was excellent.

A sensational tour with Tung & Tun
Tung, our tour guide, is knowledgable, multilingual and a gentleman. The tour was enjoyable from start to finish. The driver, Tuk is exceptional and has a great sense for enjoyable music. I would do this tour again if I could. The tour was conducted in Japanese & English and Tung took lots of wonderful pictures.

Amazing private tour experience
Having a private guide and driver provided for an excellent experience. The guide was extremely informative as we toured the citadel and the king’s tomb, which were made of intricate inlaid glass and porcelain. The history and culture of Vietnam really came to life.

Can be better
Weather wasn't the best - rainy & cold.
Guide said she wasn't informed of the detailed itinerary which we signed up for, so we skipped seeing Hai Van pass, Hai Van Quan & Lang Vo Bay on the way to Hue, partly due to the weather too. Instead she brought us to the pearl factory which wasn't really meaningful to us as the staff doing the explanation wasn't proficient in English. It was more for retail we assume.
Luckily we reminded her that there is also dragon boat cruise included so she booked it for us.
Improvement for the guide - wished there was more sharing about the place of Hue in general, the people etc, not just on the sites we visited. Many times there was just silence as we walked, at times I had to ask where were we heading to. She took nice photos for us though.
The vehicle provided was a little small for us too, though there were only 3 of us. My husband who is not very tall sat at the back uncomfortably throughout the whole journey. But the driver was helpful though.
On the whole, surely room for improvement.

Hue a city of ancient stories rivaling Game of Thrones
The Imperial City was well worth the trip and Dat’s (our guide) stories of emperors, feuds, treachery and tragedy made the history come alive for us. A truly educational and inspiring day.

Amazing places with a very knowledgeable guide
I always wanted to see both ancient and modern Vietnam. I had just one weekend in Da Nang so I was very happy to find a private tour to see Hue, Vietnam’s ancient capital, on Saturday, and the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills on Sunday.
It was raining when we arrived at Hue. When it sopped and we walked around the Citadel, everything looked so mysterious like you stepped back in time. My guide Hung had a very good knowledge of Vietnamese history and had a great sense of humour. He made my trip very enjoyable.

Last minute booking....
Last minute booking. Guide had poor language skills. Paid premium £200+ for the trip for two.
Poor knowledge of history and would not recommend.

Amazing tour guide!
Eric was an amazing tour guide!!! He was very informative and was able to personalize so much of the tour. He was funny and kind and it was really nice having him as the tour guide for the day. This was my first private tour anywhere and it’s definitely worth the money! I am very happy with it and would do it again!!
