Horse Riding on Melides Beach

We were delighted with the experience. Our guide Aline was fantastic throughout the experience. We highly recommend it.

We booked a private tour for 2 good riders for over 200€ mentioning we wanted to avoid a walking tour and being able to go on a sporty ride on the beach. The beach surroundings are of course incredibly beautiful. When we arrived on the beach however we asked if we could now have a little trot or canter as our horses had a good 45min walk and were warmed up. Our guide answered that the sand was too heavy at that time of the day and trot or canter would only be possible by low tide. So we asked if we could then just walk in the water. She told us the horses were scared of the water, so no. So we ended up having a quick shortcut on the beach. My friend and I both care a lot about horses safety and we would never have pushed for something crazy. But when the guide told me: “in low season I don’t mind losing a horse to injury, but at this time time of the year I do”. So Ok we understood this was a money first reasoning and we were not on the same page. Then our guide ended being 10min on the phone, it really felt like she wanted to get rid of the tour asap. So disappointing. It would have been nice to be told about the tide and gallop possibilities and we would have adapted consequently. when we gave a constructive feedback to the owner, he pushed back on everything we said, that the horses were not afraid of the water and that it was us who should have tried, etc. If you want a calm lazy walk as a beginner you may have fun. Unfortunately we did not.

As inexperienced horse riders we were excited but also a bit nervous to try this activity but the opportunity to ride a horse on the beach outweighed any fear. Our instructor was clear and we felt secure with her tutelage. The scenery was stunning, the beach beautiful and it was ultimately a memorable family activity with teens.

Make sure to respect the maximum weight (220) because my husband is 230 and there was no mention anywhere about this subject and Viator and the provider passed the buck. We are waiting for a refund for his part of the trip even though we wanted to participate as a family. No one took responsibility. Waiting for a refund that I hope will come. Otherwise, the ride is too long (2hrs and not 1h30 as mentioned) in the party with a lot of sand in the eyes. About 20min near the beach and not in the water. However, instructors were very understanding and competent.

My wife and daughter did this together and loved it. Pictures were incredible. Only constructive feedback (and note for anyone booking) is that the meet up point instructions were a bit vague. You head down Camino 1136, and take a left opposite a restaurant called TéTé.

The horse riding experience was amazing, but I marking it down because during the ride we had a photographer take pictures, at the end the host asked for our emails and said we had to pay €30 to get the photos. I paid in cash and till this day, I have not received the photos. Can I get my money back please?

The horses were well cared for and fantastically behaved. The views are incredible. The tour guide was informative and funny. Highly recommend

Unfortunately, we had a rather disappointing experience. My friend's horse was very restless throughout the tour and wanted to keep running. Although we explicitly emphasized at the beginning that we are beginners and my friend has no riding experience at all, this was not taken into account sufficiently. When the tour guide took the horse by the hand for safety, it was bitten by another horse. The horse had been frightened by this, so my friend fell off the horse. In the end, despite this incident, we had to pay the full price. When we searched for the conversation again afterwards, we were ignored.
