Honest Walking Tour of Zagreb

Description
I'm a Zagreb-born Sociology graduate and history enthusiast with almost a decade of tour guiding experience. Being fed up with doing standard tours gave me motivation to come up with a tour for your (and mine!) maximum enjoyment. That means you'll see all the highlights of a regular Zagreb tour, but we'll actually have fun doing it. The main question this tour sets out to answer is: Who are the people of Zagreb, and why are we the way we are? We'll take an in-depth look at Zagreb's history and social life through its most notable historical figures, their legacy, and events that still resonate today... All sprinkled with my personal experience of having lived in Zagreb my whole life. Not only will you get the facts and stories, I'll deliver them in a fun, engaging, and, most importantly, transparent way. I've got nothing to hide and you've got nothing to lose! Except a very reasonable sum, but that's beside the point. Book your spot and let's have some good clean honest fun!

Itinerary
After we get acquainted at our meeting point, you will find out where the name Zagreb came from. Next I'll talk about the person whose statue adorns the main square.
Not only will we talk about the Cathedral's tumultuous history, but I'll also touch on the Catholic Church and its role in Croatian history.
We'll walk through Zagreb's largest open market, and I'll share a few tips on getting the most out of it like a local.
We'll stop by the statue of Petrica Kerempuh - the folk trickster who inspired this tour. And yes, there will be a live poetry recital.
We'll head to Tkalčićeva Street, where we'll talk about how people of Zagreb actually spend their time and I'll introduce you to Marija Jurić Zagorka, one of Croatia's most beloved writers.
We'll pass through the Stone Gate, the historic entrance to Gradec old town, which has served as everything from a site of witch trials to a beloved pilgrimage spot still active today.
Our next stop is St. Mark's Square, where history and politics collide. I'll cover the iconic church and give you a frank overview of Croatia's current political scene.
We'll head to Lotrščak Tower just in time for the daily cannon fire. Once the smoke clears, we'll take in the best view Zagreb has to offer.
Next is Strossmayer Promenade, a beautiful tree-lined walkway that might just be the most romantic spot in Zagreb.
Next is the statue of A.G. Matoš, where I'll talk about the man himself and share some of his more... memorable quotes.
Next up is a quick ride on one of the shortest funicular lines in the world, with a bit of history thrown in.
While we're walking through Grič Tunnel I'll talk about how and why it was built, and what it's been used for since.
We'll stop at the Bloody Bridge street, where the theme of conflict between neighbours comes into focus — from the medieval clashes between Kaptol and Gradec to Croatia's war with Serbia in the 1990s.
Our last stop is K&K Milčec, a charming local café where your first drink is on me. Before we say goodbye, I'll answer any questions you have and share some restaurant recommendations.

We had a great time on this tour. Tomislav is a great, very knowledgeable tour guide. Besides the tour itself he gave as many recommendations for the other places to visit and good local restaurants. Having a coffee and a drink at the end in an amazing little coffee shop was a very pleasant touch. Would highly recommend it to anyone.
Super fun tour if you actually want to understand the story of how Zagreb was formed as a result of it's historic events and people! Tomis was super engaging and had answers for all of our questions. Would highly recommend!
We organized to do this tour on our first day in Zagreb, and it was a great decision! Tom’s tour is well thought out, entertaining and informative, thus a great introduction to this lovely city. Highly recommended!
Very nice tour through Zagreb! Tomislav gave us some insights in the complex history of Croatia and showed us around some important places in Zagreb. Open to all our questions. And just in time for the canon 😀
We had an excellent tour with Tomislav. He is extremely knowledgeable and personalized the tour for us, answered all our questions. Taking us to a local cafe and providing restaurant recommendations (which were too notch) was an added bonus! We highly recommend this tour!
