Highly Recommended Experience
My friends and I were fortunate enough to have the experience of cooking with Auntie K. Her place was conveniently located in Accra and we were greeted with a warm welcome. We were asked to meet at 10 a.m. and I am grateful that she chose that time because it can get a bit warm cooking over an open flame in the peak heat of the day. However, there were trees for shade, we were given fresh coconut water, and ice cold water. All these things helped tremendously to keep us comfortable. We cooked grilled chicken, jollof rice, smoked tuna, cabbage, and kelewele. Each and every dish had amazing flavor and there was plenty of food to enjoy. I would definitely recommend this experience to other travelers.
Operator response
Thank you for noticing all those little things! I try to think about comfort too, not just the food, so I'm glad the timing and the coconut water and the shade all helped. Cooking over open flame, yes, it can get warm, so I always want my guests to feel taken care of while we work. Grilled chicken, jollof, smoked tuna, cabbage, kelewele, that's a proper spread! So happy you and your friends enjoyed it together. Please come back and bring more friends next time!

A "Don't Miss" Wonderful Ghanaian Experience
So I arrived a day later in Accra, was more jet-lagged from the extra day of travel, and had trouble getting oriented. All of this did not matter to Auntie K, who patiently took it all in stride with a wonderful sense of humor. She lives Akwaaba!
Though we got started late, by the end we had cooked four traditional dishes (eggplant garden egg stew with smoked fish and served on yam, jollof rice, marinated grilled chicken, and fried vegetables). Throughout cooking, Auntie K answered all my many questions about Ghanaian food, techniques, culture.
Oh, and the spice/heat level was tremendously good - Auntie K adjusts the level to fit your palette so don't fear the amount of peppers, you learn to expertly cook them such that the heat transforms into flavor.
The class was a fantastic introduction to Ghana and Ghanaian cooking and the wonderful people who live here. Her knowledge, skill, and ability to teach are a true gift and I am a better person having received some of it. Thank you K!
Auntie K is building a cooking community across the world. Please join her.
P.S. I'm glad I brought sunscreen and a hat!
Operator response
You made me smile so much reading this. Travel is hard on the body, and I just wanted you to feel welcome, that's what Akwaaba means to me, not just a word we say. I loved answering all your questions too, that's how I know someone really wants to understand, not just eat and leave. Garden egg stew, jollof, grilled chicken, fried vegetables, we really did a lot together that day! And yes, the pepper, I always say don't be afraid of it, let me show you how to use it properly. Thank you for these beautiful words! You're always welcome back in my kitchen.

Food and Community
The food was amazing, and the companionship was even better. I really connected with her and she was up and taking her cooking and her passion for food and community.
Operator response
You have no idea how much this means to me. Cooking is one thing, but connecting with the people I cook for, that's really what it's all about for me. I felt that same warmth from you too! Thank you for seeing that in what I do, and for spending that time with me. Come back anytime, my kitchen is always open to you.

Authentic Ghanaian Cooking
Auntie KK and family created an incredible, customized, and priceless cooking experience for me. Auntie KK came in on a day when she truly did not have to, to help me learn some new Ghanaian dishes. I assisted alongside her, her husband, and one of her daughters. I truly felt like a part of the family!!! We spent 3.5 hours or so making fufu, palava, chicken light soup, boiled eggs with peppers/onions, and boiled yams. This was everything that I asked for, and Auntie KK delivered.
I highly recommend this experience. It's genuine and special, and I've walked away from it learning a bit more about Ghanaian cooking and with new family/friends.
The cooking and eating all happen outdoors on a patio area on charcoal fires. This was not an issue at all for me (I loved it!), but if you are sensitive to the heat or sun, you may not enjoy this experience as much.
Operator response
That day was special for me too, my husband and my daughter loved having you with us, and honestly that's exactly what I want my guests to feel, like family, not like a customer. Fufu, palava, chicken light soup, all of it, we really covered a lot together! So glad you're walking away with more than just recipes. And thanks for mentioning the outdoor charcoal setup too, that's helpful for others to know before they come. Please come back and see us again, you're family now!

Authentic Ghanian Cooking
Awesome home cooking experience! Auntie K made you actually cook not just watch her prepare the dishes. You will definitely leave with an authentic experience.
Operator response
Thank you so much! That's exactly what I want, for you to really cook, not just watch me do it. Glad you left with the real experience. Come back and cook with me again sometime!

Carpi fish at the Aunti way
I had a good experience, Aunti was really welcoming, despite her long distance trip to prepare for the course 2h, but she was there on time, all went well, frankly speaking basically I am semi vegetarian and can eat fish from time to time, she took into consideration all my restrictions, she even came out with a new olive oil bottle as I use only that, and smoked Tuna as I love Tuna. She was miticoulos, and steady. We had all ready on lunch time.
Only a remark I would have preferred having the class in a typical traditional Ghanian kitchen within all the traditional habits, spices, dishes, especially that I paid 70eur to eat some vegetables and a Carpi fish 😅,
Wish her best luck with other groups,
I do recommend her for simple quick meals.
Operator response
Thank you so much for this, and I'm really happy I could work around your restrictions, the olive oil and the tuna, that was easy for me, I always want my guests eating what actually works for them.
Oh, and just so you know, we were cooking the whole class on the coalpot outdoor, the traditional way, with our own local herbs and spices! Maybe that got lost a little in the day, but that part was very much there. I'm always happy to bring even more of the traditional side forward too when selecting meals, so guests get the full picture. Thank you again for the kind words and for recommending me, hope to see you back in the kitchen sometime!

A warm and delicious experience - take the class!
Auntie K (and her special assistant!) provided a wonderful experience in teaching me how to cook. Over three hours, we made light soup with goat meat, grilled chicken, red red, jollof rice, kelewele, fried plantain, and sautéed vegetables. I was given step-by-step instructions for how to recreate the dishes as well. The memories I have to cherish are just as good as the plentiful leftovers from the class. Please take this class - good for solo travelers and groups!
Operator response
Thank you so much for this! I really enjoyed having you in the kitchen that day, and my assistant will be so happy you mentioned her too. We did cover a lot in those three hours eh, light soup, red red, jollof, kelewele, plantain, all of it! I always tell my guests, I don't just want you to eat and go, I want you to be able to go home and cook it again yourself. So I'm really happy that stuck with you. And you're right, whether you come alone or bring your friends, my kitchen is always open. Thank you again, come back anytime!

Great experience
Auntie K and the girls were so nice and the food was delicious. It took longer than expected but we did choose a lot of dishes.
Operator response
Aww, thank you so much for the kind words! Me and the girls really enjoyed cooking with you all. You know when you keep picking more dishes, we can't say no, that's why it took a little longer, but I'm glad you got to try everything! Come back and see us again, you're always welcome in my kitchen.
