Description
Pottery in this region dates back to 2000 BC during the Hittites period. Throughout history, human beings have been creative by using the resources provided by the soil for their own benefit in daily life. For centuries, local people have been taking this clay and using traditional old pottery wheels to make various items such as wine jugs, cooking utensils and souvenirs ever since Turkey embraced tourism.

Pretty but short
The tour itself was very beautiful and interesting, but at the start they gave us a demo on how to make the pottery pieces and then we got to try by ourselves. It’s a shame that we could not paint or keep them. The whole experience lasted maybe 20 minutes

Passionate about every piece and experience.
This activity was surprisingly positive. I found time to try making your own little piece, could explore more. Plus, I thought we could take our play home and that wasn't what happened.
I really liked the service done internally, but the prices are very high for the ready parts.
Highlighting as highlight of the visit our Guide: Backir. He is a person of high energy, shared about the history of Avanos with us and some Turkish traditions. Certainly he made us feel very comfortable and we definitely indicate this tour made by him.

Scam do NOT book
READ. This tour group completely misrepresents what they offer to their customers. Given the title, steep price, and description which literally says “you will try to make your own pottery,” my group or 5 was expecting a pottery class. Instead it was just a ridiculously expensive 15 minute tour with extremely pushy salesmen who take the overly-friendly approach. After a quick intro and some tea, one person in our group was able to demo and play with clay for 5 minutes. Next, after an overview of the process we were brought into the pottery room where everything was extremely expensive. The large pottery looked beautiful however the “more affordable” pottery was exactly the same as everything else we had seen in Turkey for a quarter of the price. As we left I expressed my disappointment but they brushed it off. I tried to get my money back through Viator but was unsuccessful. I then contacted the company any they were extremely rude to me, accusing me of asking for refunds at every tour I book and claiming it was too late to give me even a partial refund. Furthermore, I complained only one person in our group was able to do the lame excuse for a pottery demo which I mentioned earlier, and he stated it was my fault that the rest of us did not volunteer. We obviously were expecting a course and did not think that was the only time to play with clay, and like I said, only 5 minutes. The company takes absolutely no accountability for the misrepresentation of what they offer on Viator. DO NOT BOOK.

The experience was absolutely wonderful. The pottery lesson was Informative and immersive. The driver Bekir Kaynak was absolutely wonderful and caring in accommodating the needs of me and my wife. As tourists he made us feel welcome and at home.. he took care of us and even let us stop to try a yummy doner kabob.. May Allah bless the team of emoji tourism

Beautiful tour with Bekir!
It was a very nice private tour. Our guide Bekir Kaynak picked us up at our hotel in a nice car and took us to the ceramic shop. We got a pottery workshop there and afterwards we got to shop. Bekir was patience enough to wait on us while we were shopping. Afterwarfs he showed us around, gave us information about Cappadocia and let us try the wine/pumpkin seeds/raisins. Bekir took a lot of beautiful picture of us. Thank you so much Bekir, we definitely enjoyed the tour!

Try a different experience or venue
The driver was very efficient and informative about the culture of the city. The pottery making was not long enough and the owner kept pushing products to sell and following us around the showroom. Was very uncomfortable.

No matter how much we want to tell him that this negative comment has nothing to do with us. Even though we tried to explain that the negative review should be made for the store and not for us. Although he said that he was satisfied with our team in the comments, he also gave our page a bad rating. However, when our team first met him that day, he offered a bottle of Cappadocia local wine and nuts as a gesture. We absolutely do not accept this comment and rating. We see this as an aggressive behavior towards us.

A fascinating day in Cappadoccia
My special thanks to the organizers, was picked up from the hotel on time and accompanied to the pottery event location , we were able to learn a lot of types and variants using different pottery techniques. The result is a beautiful mug 😁
